كُلُّ دَاعٍ سِوَاي غَيْرُ مُجَابِ

وَعَذَابُ الْهَوى أَشَدُّ عَذابِ

Every suitor but I is unsuccessful,

And the torment of passion is the worst torment.

كَمْ يَكُونُ الْخِلافُ وَالْبُعْدُ قَلْ لِي

مَعَ ذُلِّي وَطَاعَتِي واقْتِرابِي

Tell me, how long will our disagreement and distance last

Despite my humiliation, obedience, and devotion?

كُلَّ يَوْمٍ يَرُوعُنِي مِنْكَ وَعْدٌ

مَطْمِعٌ لَمْعُهُ كَلَمْعِ السَّرَابِ

Each day, your promise terrifies me,

Its shining light like a mirage.
