1. Indeed, a sandy declivity, where stands the tent of a freeborn woman,

    noble and purebred, beside a ridge clothed in alāʾ trees and ʿarfaj shrubs,

  2. where every evening the gazelles call plaintively

    to every bracelet-fair fawn, then venture forth,

  3. is dearer to us than the great boats by a bank

    of the Tigris, or a bolted palace in Baghdad.
