يا مَنْ إِذا زِدْتُ ذُلا زَادَني تِيها

عَلِّلْ بِوَعْدِكَ نَفْسِي فَهْوَ يَكْفِيها

O you whose increased remoteness leads me further astray

Validate my soul with your promise, for it suffices her

أَمَتَّها بِدَوامِ الهَجْرِ مِنْكَ وَلَوْ

وَصَلْتَها كانَ رُوحُ الوَصْلِ يُحْييها

You have killed her with the permanence of your estrangement

And if you had reconciled with her, the spirit of union would have revived her

الحَمْدُ للَّهِ حَمْداً لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ

صَبْراً فَقَدْ حُرِمَتْ نَفْسِي أَمَانِيها

Thanks be to Allah—gratitude with no partner to Him

Patience, for my soul has been deprived of her wishes

يَا مَعْشَرَ النَّاسِ إِنِّي قَدْ كَلِفْتُ بِمَنْ

لا أَسْتَطِيعُ لَهُ وَصْفاً وَتَشْبِيها

O people! I have been charged with one

Whom I cannot describe or compare

لا تَعْجَبِي لاخضِرارٍ في عَوَارِضِهِ

فَإِنَّ جَدْوَلَ ماءِ الحُسْنِ يَسْقِيها

Do not be surprised at the greenness in his qualities
