رأَيْتُ الهِلالَ وَقَدْ أَقْبَلَتْ

نُجُومُ الثُّرَيَّا لِكَيْ تَسْبِقَهْ

I saw the crescent moon appear

As Pleiades came racing forth

فَشَبَّهْتُهُ وَهْوَ مِنْ خَلْفِها

وَبَيْنَهُما الزَّهْرَةُ المُشْرِقَهْ

Behind it they did persevere

With Venus between the two, so bright

بِقَوْسٍ لِرامٍ رَأى طائِراً

فَأَرْسَلَ في إِثْرِهِ بُنْدُقَهْ

Like a bow for archer taking sight

Letting fly his gun for flight
