عَذَّبَني بِالتِّيهِ وَالكِبْرِ
ومالَ في أَمْري إِلى الغَدْرِ
He tormented me with disdain and pride;
Yet in my plight I have no inclination toward betrayal.
ظَبْيٌ مِنَ الإِنْسِ ولَكِنَّهُ
قَدْ فاقَ في الحُسنِ عَلى البَدْرِ
A gazelle from among humankind—yet he
Has surpassed the full moon in beauty.
فِعالهُ أَسْمَحُ مِنْ صَدِّهِ
وَوَجْهُهُ أَحْسَنُ مِنْ عُذْرِي
His conduct is more gracious than his rebuff,
And his face is fairer than my excuse.
