If it were asked, “Is there a man whose affliction has lasted long?”
my eye would well with tears until I said, “I.”
And if a passion-maddened, lovesick man could die of grief,
I would be the first grief-stricken man to die of sorrow.
This is the letter of a youth whose ardent longing has lasted long—
fettered by love, forever given over to every wasting affliction.
