Our day is a rainy day,
and pleasures are at hand.
So pour me the virgin wine in
whose lap joy has crept.
Do you not see her rising star
revolving in the full moon’s sphere?
Wake the lute with the playing of the
flute—for sleep is a delusion.
How often it has stirred delights
in me, with bass string and treble.
From a maiden there may be gathered, from
her face, the radiant full moon.
Do not squander, friend, the pleasures
that are yours—for life is short.
Take of pleasures whatever you
desire—and God is forgiving.
