1. قَدْ آنَ لِلْوَصْلِ نَحْوَ الهَجْرِ يَنْتَهِضُ

    كذا وعَيْشِكَ كلُّ الأَمْرِ ينْتَقِضُ

    It is time for union to rise and head toward estrangement.

    So it is—by your glory—the whole affair comes undone.

  2. مَادامَ شَيءٌ مِن الدُّنْيا عَلَى أَحَدٍ

    خَيْرٌ وشَرٌّ كذا الأَيامُ تَنْقَرِضُ

    No condition of this world lasts for anyone—

    good or evil; thus the days pass away.

  3. صَبْراً عَليكَ ولا صَبْرٌ يُطاوِعُني

    وكيفَ يَصْبِرُ مَن في قَلبِهِ مَرَضُ

    Patience with you—yet no patience will obey me;

    and how can one whose heart holds sickness be patient?
