جَرَحَ الفُؤادَ بِصَدِّهِ
مَنْ لا يَرِقُّ لِعَبدِهِ
He wounded my heart with his aloofness
One who does not care for his servant
حُلْوُ الشَّمائِلِ أَهْيَفٌ
فَضَحَ القَضيبَ بِقَدِّهِ
Of sweet temper yet indifferent
His cheek put spring to shame with its beauty
سالَتْ مَسايِلُ عارِضَي
هِ بنفسجاً في وَرْدِهِ
Down his cheeks tears flowed
Like violets amid roses
فَكأَنَّهُ مِنْ حُسْنِهِ
عَبَثَ الرَبيعُ بِخَدِّهِ
As though spring itself
Had toyed with his cheek
