شَرِبْنا عَلَى النَّهْرِ لَمَّا بَدَا
بِمَوْجٍ يَزِيدُ وَلا يَنْقُصُ
We drank by the river when it began
With a wave that grew but did not abate
كَأَنَّ تَكَاثُفَ أَمْواجِهِ
مَعَاطِفُ جَارِيَةٍ تَرْقُصُ
As if the crowding of its waves
Were the cloaks of a dancing maid
