1. وَيُعْجِبُني مِنْكَ الصُّدُودُ وإِنَّهُ

    لَحَتْفٌ وَلكِنْ حبَّذا بِالهَوى الحَتْفُ

    I'm fond of your aloofness, though it's perilous,

    Yet peril in love is sweet and glorious.

  2. فَواللَهِ مَا اخْتَرْتُ التَّسَتُّرَ عَنْ قِلىً

    وَلكِنْ حِذاراً أَنْ يَشُوبَ الهَوى خُلْفُ

    By God, I chose not to conceal my passion,

    But to avoid disloyalty tainting our union.

  3. شَرِبْتُ حُمَيَّا الحُبِّ صِرْفاً مُعَتَّقاً

    فَشُرْبُ الوَرى مَزْجٌ وشُرْبي لَها صِرْفُ

    I drank love's wine unmixed and aged,

    While the world drinks diluted and assuaged.
