رَثى لهُ مِمَّا به ما بِهِ
صبٌّ غدا صبّاً بأَوصابِهِ
He mourned him, though why should he mourn
A youth who died still in the flower of his youth?
مَيْتٌ يُرى حَيّاً ولكِنَّهُ
تُرْبَتُهُ ما بين أَثوابِهِ
He seems alive, though dead and gone;
For his dust is scattered ‘twixt his garments’ folds.
أيُّ حياةٍ لامرئٍ قد بُلي
بالقُرب من فُرقة أحبابِهِ
What life can be there for a man Who finds himself
Parted from all his loved ones and his friends?
