1. أَطالَ ليلَ الصُّدودِ حتَّى

    يَئِسْتُ مِنْ غُرَّةِ الصَّباحِ

    The night of rejection has lingered so long

    That I despaired of the bright dawn’s early light

  2. كأنَّهُ إِذْ دَجا غُدافٌ

    قَدْ حَضَنَ الأَرْضَ بالجَناحِ

    As if when darkness fell, a great giant

    Had wrapped the earth beneath his sable wing
