When the cheeks' roses turned violet
And the tears made the ruby lips grow pale
She turned to face us, though estrangement stood between us
With affection, not with rejection or blame
Her eyelids were adorned with her tears
As the night sky is adorned with stars
I said to dear friends who cared for me
It pains us to see you in such distress
Take my blood, O you in the cloak
For I saw my blood on her fingers
