Many a star in a season of new leaves
I watched in the west and the east.
As though, from shyness, they did not lower their gaze,
Or were narcissi scattered through a garden.
And the Pole Star, as it rises and climbs—
Then the Pleiades are a cypress that has not leafed out,
Tipped toward the west as they scatter,
As though they were a bough without a head veil.
