1. نفسُ المتيّمِ في الصبابةِ شأنُها

    وصلُ الأحبّة والهوى أديانُها

    Her passionate soul in youth is like

    Connecting lovers and love is its religion

  2. أَلِفت مقاسات الهوى وعذابه

    واِستعذبت ما كانَ فيه هوانُها

    She got used to the torments of passion

    And found sweetness in its disgrace

  3. نفسٌ تضاعفَ وجدُها وغرامها

    يوم النوى وتكاثرت أحزانُها

    A soul that doubles its passion and love

    When hopes are delayed and sorrows multiply

  4. مِن حيث إنّ سعاد أقلقَها الجوى

    فرقاً وهاجَت بالنوى أشجانُها

    Since Sa'ad distressed her by his aloofness

    Separating them, igniting her sorrows

  5. وَدنا اللثامُ فلاحَ من وجناتها

    تفّاحها وترَقرقت أجفانُها

    The veil drew nearer, so her cheeks shone

    Like apples, and her eyelids fluttered

  6. وكأنّما حبب الجمانِ دموعها

    وكأنّما قطر الدموع جمانُها

    As if he made her tears into pearls

    And her falling tears into pearl necklaces

  7. شمسٌ بَدَت في خلقِ إنسان وقد

    سحر القلوبَ من الورى إنسانُها

    A sun appeared in the creation of this human

    Who captivated all hearts in existence

  8. وتكادُ من حرِّ الجَوى أنفاسنا

    وجداً تأجّج بيننا نيرانُها

    Our breaths nearly catch fire

    From the heat of passion burning between us

  9. ليست بساتينُ الرياض جميعها

    في الحسنِ تحوي ما حَوى بستانُها

    Not all the gardens contain, in beauty

    What her garden contains

  10. ما في الجنا تفّاحها تفاحها

    أبداً ولا رمّانها رمّانُها

    Its apples are not like any apples in Paradise

    Nor its pomegranates like any pomegranates

  11. أجد الكآبة في الوصالِ فكيف لي

    إِن طالَ بعد وصالها هجرانُها

    I find gloom even in union with her

    So how will I be if we are long separated?

  12. ما أَقفرت مِنها ومن قطّانها

    سوداء قلبي مذ عفَت أوطانُها

    My heart has been blackened since

    Her homelands were abandoned

  13. فكأنّما ميٌّ لفرط دَلالها

    وكأنّني في لوعَتي غيلانُها

    It is as if she is a wave, so adept at flirting

    And I am her tumultuous seas

  14. ما للّيالي والبريّة لم تزل

    تجري عَليه دائماً حدثانُها

    The nights and the wilderness never

    Cease flowing over her perpetually

  15. لَم يبقَ من فتكِ الخطوب جمادها

    فيها على حالٍ ولا حيوانُها

    Nothing remains of the ravages of ordeals

    In it, neither inanimate nor living

  16. وَلَقد رأيتُ الناسَ تقصرُ عن مدى ال

    عليا إِذا اِتّصعت به أخدانُها

    And I have seen people fall short of reaching

    Her lofty heights whenever tested

  17. والمجدُ يرفعُ في العلا أربابهُ

    في كلّ مرتبةٍ ينوب مكانُها

    And glory raises its people to the highest

    Ranks, whenever its position is assumed

  18. كم أمّة قصرت مدىً في فخرها

    عن أمّة سلطانها سلطانُها

    How many a nation falls short in its pride

    Of a nation whose ruler is its pillar

  19. ملكٌ له تَصبو الملوك مهابةً

    وتخرُّ فوقَ بساطها أذقانُها

    A king to whom kings show reverence

    And bow over his throne mats

  20. زانَت بهِ الدنيا وأشرق نورها

    حتّى تبسّم بالسرورِ مآنُها

    Through him the world is adorned and its light radiates

    Until its horizons smile with joy

  21. وَسَمت مفاخرهُ علاً حتّى دنا

    عن حدّ مبلغِ شأوه كيوانُها

    And his glories are exalted so high

    That the extent of his greatness rivals the sky

  22. تَغدو موائده إلى ضيفانهِ

    بيضاً تكلّل بالسديف جفانُها

    His tables are set before his guests

    White, garlanded with tablecloths

  23. أَضحت بهِ الحوفين تحكي جنّة ال

    فردوس لم تحزن به سكّانُها

    Through him the two enclosures resemble Paradise

    Whose inhabitants know no sorrow

  24. إنّي اِختبرتك يا اِبن مالك بعدما

    عاينتُ قوماً ربحها خسرانُها

    I have tested you, O son of Malik, after

    Seeing a people whose loss was their gain

  25. فَرأيتُ مِنك خلائقاً طابت لنا

    حتّى تأرّج بِالشذا ريحانُها

    So I saw in you praiseworthy qualities

    Whose fragrance makes the flowers bloom

  26. وَلَكم قطعتُ إِليك من مجهولةٍ

    ليسَت تحدّ بغايةٍ غيطانُها

    And I set out to you from many uncertainties

    With no limits to their winding paths

  27. تَكبو الرياحُ إِذا جرت في عرضها

    وتميلُ مِن جهة الهدى ركبانُها

    The winds subside when blowing through it

    And riding beasts lean towards guidance
