1. شَمسٌ تجلّت لنا من بين سجفينِ

    تفوق شمسَ الضُحى منها بخدّينِ

    A sun appeared to us from between two clouds

    Exceeding the morning sun with two cheeks

  2. تَحكي الدجى والضحى مِن نورِ غرّتها

    وَمِن ذَوائِبها الغطشى بلونينِ

    It tells of the darkness and daylight from the light of its appearance

    And from its dangling tresses two colors

  3. ليلٌ تَعَسعس داجيهِ على قمرٍ

    عَلى قضيبٍ تثنّى فوق دعصينِ

    A night whose darkness creeps on a moon

    On a stick bent over two palm branches

  4. كأنّما صدرها مِن حُسنِ بهجتهِ

    بلّورة لُصِقت منها بحقّينِ

    As if its chest from the beauty of its splendor

    Is a crystal attached to it with two cheeks

  5. تريكَ مِن ثغرِها المعسولِ إن بسمت

    وَمِن نظامِ سموط الدرِّ درّينِ

    It shows you from its sweet mouth if it smiles

    And from the arrangement of the fallen pearls two pearls

  6. جالَ الوشاحُ بها في الخصرِ واِحتكمت

    فيها خَلاخِلها منها بساقينِ

    The scarf wavered around her waist and her anklets clashed

    Again her legs with two legs

  7. تَسعى للسعِ قلوبِ المُبصرين لها

    بِعَقربين لها من فوق صدغينِ

    Their hearts eagerly seek her

    With two scorpions over two temples

  8. أَبدت لَنا وَجهها والشمسُ طالعة

    في سعدِها فرأت عيناي شمسينِ

    She revealed her face to us and the sun is rising

    In its morning so my eyes saw two suns

  9. وَقابلت في الدُجى بدر السماء فما

    لمحت إلّا وقد أبصرت بدرينِ

    And I faced the full moon in the darkness but

    I saw nothing but that I saw two full moons

  10. وَأَسفرت وضياءُ الصبحِ متّضحٌ

    فَقلت قَد أزعج الداجي بصبحينِ

    And the brightness of dawn cleared up

    So I said the darkness is disturbed by two dawns

  11. وَليلة زرتها هدواً وقد سفرت

    مِن سجفها ومن الداجي بصبحينِ

    And a night I visited calmly and its darkness

    Receded from its cloud and from the darkness at dawn

  12. فبتُّ بالوصلِ جذلاناً أصافحٌ أث

    مارَ المحاسنِ منها بالبنانينِ

    So I spent the night rejoicing, smiling, loving

    As beauty passed from her with two eyes

  13. أضمُّها وهيَ طوعاً ما تُدافِعُني

    مِن حيثُ عانَقتُها إلّا بِنهدينِ

    I hug her and she willfully does not defend herself against me

    From where I embraced her except with two breasts

  14. تديرُ لي من ثَناياها وقهوتها

    كَأسين مُختلفين اللون عذبينِ

    She turns to me from her folds and curves

    Two differently colored cups, sweet

  15. وَمبغض سيّء الأخلاقِ رؤيته

    أَقلى وأثقلُ في قلبي من الدينِ

    And I hate the ill-natured ugly sight of him

    More heavy and burdensome in my heart than debt

  16. قَد خامرت قلبَه الأضغانُ منه وقد

    رانَ القلاء عليه أيّما رينِ

    Suspicions have crept into his heart and

    Hypocrisy showed upon him however much

  17. يرينني البرّ والإخلاص ظاهرهُ

    طَوراً ويمزجُ منه الصدق بالمينِ

    He sometimes shows me righteousness and sincerity outwardly

    And mixes honesty from him with cunning

  18. يا مازجاً زينهُ بالشين كفَّ ودَع

    ما أَنتَ مُبديهِ مِن زينٍ ومن شينِ

    Oh you who adorns his beauty with disgrace, stop

    What you show of beauty and ugliness

  19. وفجوة تُهلك الركبان سالكها

    يَدعو الإله اِبتهالاً خشية الحينِ

    And a gap that destroys the travelers traversing it

    Calls God desperately fearing the moment

  20. يُعيي الدليل وينسيهِ مطالبهُ

    أهوالها وَتريهِ الشخصَ شخصينِ

    It tires the guide and makes him forget his demands

    Its horrors and shows the person two people

  21. جاوزتها بأمونِ الظهرِ إِن جدّت

    لَم تَشتكي في مجدّ السيرِ من أينِ

    I crossed it with tranquility of spirit if it became serious

    If the glory of the journey did not complain where from

  22. مُستقبلاً مَربعَ الزاكي فلاح وقد

    أَيقنت أَنّي بهِ أَحظى بيسرينِ

    Heading towards the blessed radiant square so I rejoiced

    Having ascertained that through it I obtain ease

  23. فَحين قابلته في الدستِ مبتدياً

    كأنَّه البدرُ وافى بين سعدينِ

    So when I faced it starting in the hand

    It was as if it were the full moon having risen between two auspicious ones

  24. طفقتُ أَسعى كأنّي كنت من فرحٍ

    صافَحتُ وجهَ السما منّي بكفّينِ

    I started to walk about as if from joy

    I shook the face of the sky with both my hands

  25. ما جاءَ يسألهُ عافيه عارفةً

    إلّا وأعطاهُ فوقَ الضعف ضعفينِ

    No one came asking him for wellbeing knowing

    Except that he gave him double the double

  26. متوّج لَم يَزل في الدست مكتسباً

    مِنَ التُقى ومنَ الإجلال بردينِ

    Crowned he continued gaining

    From piety and veneration two profits

  27. ما شامَ مزن نداه شايما أبداً

    إلّا تضاعفَ منه النوّ نوّينِ

    The light of his fame never met

    A critic but his light multiplied twofold

  28. يَرى الغيوبَ وما يجري القضاءُ بهِ

    عَن ناظرِ العقلِ لا عَن ناظرِ العينِ

    He sees the unseen and what destiny holds

    Beyond the sight of the mind not the sight of the eye

  29. بَحرٌ إِذا مدّ كفّيه لسائلهِ

    عاينت للجودِ مِن كفّيه بحرينِ

    A sea when he extends his palm to his asker

    I saw in his palms for generosity two seas

  30. سيف جلاهُ وأَبدى نور جوهرهِ

    حكُّ التجاربِ لا حكّ من العينِ

    A sword he unsheathed and revealed the light of its essence

    The judgment of trials not the sight’s judgement

  31. يا خيرَ مَن وخدت أيدي المطيِّ به

    وَيا خير من لثم الدقعا بنعلينِ

    O best of those the soft piercings were loyal to

    And the best of those the banners kissed with two slippers

  32. وَمَن يذودُ العدا أيضاً بصارمهِ ال

    ماضي وَمِن عزمهِ الماضي بسيفينِ

    And whoever wards off the enemies too with his

    Strong decisive sword and his strength’s two swords

  33. طالَ اِنتِظاري زماناً في مقامك يا

    مَن محتذى رفدهِ يحظى برفدينِ

    My waiting for you was long, O

    One whose aid hopes for two aids

  34. لَقَد مضى شهرُ شوّال وقعدته

    فَما يكونُ اِنتظاري بعد شهرينِ

    The month of Shawaal has passed and I waited it out

    So what will be my waiting after two months?

  35. وَلستُ أسألكُ الفسحان من مللٍ

    لكن تقسّم فكري بين أمرينِ

    And I do not ask you for vacations out of boredom

    But my thoughts are divided between two matters

  36. لَولا فراخ فيرجوني لما طلبت

    نَفسي رحيلاً ولو جاوزت عامينِ

    If not for the chickens that make me hope I would not

    Have sought to travel even if two years passed
