1. أَشموسُ أفلاكٍ طَوالع

    تلقاءَ هاتيكَ المَرابِع

    Suns of lofty orbits rise

    Towards these sublime squares

  2. أَم هنّ غيدٌ زايَلت

    عن حسنِ أوجهها البَراقِع

    Or are they gazelles who have strayed

    From the beauty of their radiant faces?

  3. غزلانُ أنسٍ هنّ في

    روضِ الحَشا منّا رَواتِع

    Gazelles of intimacy are they here

    Grazing in our meadow, wandering

  4. إن هنّ جِئن بزلّةٍ

    كانَ الجمالُ لهنَّ شافِع

    If they make a slight error

    Beauty intercedes for them

  5. وَمريضةُ الألحاظِ جَر

    حُ لِحاظها في القلبِ شائِع

    And she who is sick with glances draws

    Her gaze to her heart, spreading

  6. قامَت لِتَوديعي وقد

    صَدَعَ الحشا للبينِ صادِع

    She stood to bid me farewell when

    Parting had rent the meadow, crying out

  7. فَدنوتُ مِنها للودا

    عِ وسرّيَ المحجوب ذائِع

    So I approached her to take leave

    While my secret self divulged

  8. فَتعلّقت بِنجادِ سي

    في وهيَ باكيةُ المَدامِع

    She clung to my saddle strap

    Weeping copious tears

  9. شُكراً لذيّاك الودا

    عِ وَإِن يَكُن بالبينِ فاجع

    Thanks for that farewell though

    Parting is agony

  10. شَفعَ السواعدَ بالسوا

    عدِ وَالأضالعَ بالأضالِع

    Hands grasped hands

    Ribs touched ribs

  11. صافَحتُها بالكفِّ تو

    ديعَ الموادعِ للموادِع

    I shook her hand, bidding farewell

    To one bidding farewell

  12. وَكَذا الترائب بالترا

    ئب والأصابعَ بالأصابِع

    And so did wrists touch wrists

    And fingers touch fingers

  13. وَضمَمتُها عندَ اللقا

    ضمَّ المضاجعِ للمضاجِع

    I held her close in embrace

    As lovers embrace lovers

  14. يا ليتَ شِعري هل لنا

    عصر الصِبا واللهوِ راجِع

    Would that I knew if the days

    Of youth and play will return

  15. ما لي أَرى الدُنيا تشو

    بُ لَنا المسرّة بالفجايِع

    Why do I see life turn

    Bringing joy but with sorrows?

  16. وَمغانمُ الأيّام لم

    تكُ عِندنا إلّا وَدايِع

    The gains of days with us

    Were only farewells

  17. إيّاك بل إِيّاك أن

    تُزري بشيمتك المَطامِع

    Beware, yes beware, that you

    Do not tempt repute with greed

  18. وَمَتى زَرعتَ حصدتَ أن

    تَ مسارعاً ما أَنت زارِع

    Whenever you plant you will reap

    What you sow in haste

  19. وَإِذا بعثتَ الشِعرَ من

    كَ وكانَ مِن أَسنى البضايِع

    And when you compose poetry

    Of the finest works

  20. لا تَبذلنهُ لغيرِ كف

    ءٍ فَالمديحُ لَهُ مَواضِع

    Do not give it to the unworthy

    For praise has its places

  21. وَاِخصُص عراراً من قري

    ضكَ بالغرائِبِ وَالبدائِع

    And reserve choicest lines

    For marvels and innovations

  22. ملكٌ إِذا رفعَ الحجا

    ب رأيتَ منهُ النورَ ساطِع

    A king when he dons attire

    You see his light shine forth

  23. وَتَرى الوفودَ تَزورهُ

    ما بينَ معترٍّ وقانِع

    And delegations visit him

    Between content and ascetic

  24. وَمشتّت لتليدهِ

    لَكنّه للحمدِ جامِع

    Though distracted by luxury

    Thankfully a unifier

  25. بَحر مضرّات الورى

    منهُ تولّد وَالمَنافِع

    Ocean of the world's harms

    From it originate and benefits

  26. وَمهنّدٌ صقَلَته أح

    داثُ التَجاربِ والوقائِع

    A polished sword tempered

    By trials and events

  27. هَيهاتَ يُشبهُ في المسا

    عي وَالأيادي وَالصنايِع

    Far from all in endeavors

    And hands and crafts

  28. يا مَن إِلهُ العالمي

    نَ لِقَدرهِ في الشهبِ رافِع

    O He to whom the Lord of both worlds

    Raised his value to the stars

  29. آنستُ برقَ الجودِ من

    ك أضا فَجئت إِليه ناجِع

    I glimpsed the lightning of your munificence

    So I came to you seeking refuge
