1. صبٌّ بدرّة ثديِ الحبّ ملبونُ

    عَلى فراق الّذي يهواه محزونُ

    The full moon resembles the cheek of a beloved

    Grieving over the loss of the one she loves

  2. دموعهُ من وثاقِ الأسر مطلقة

    وقلبهُ في يدي الأحباب مرهونُ

    Her tears are released from the shackles of captivity

    While her heart remains hostage to the hands of loved ones

  3. مَن لي بعودة عصرٍ طال ما نظرت

    إليّ بالودِّ فيه الخرّد العينُ

    Who will bring back the days when I was looked upon

    With affection, those days my little eye longs for

  4. إِذ كلُّ أغيدَ مفتون هنالك في

    وجد وها أنا بالمفتون مفتونُ

    When all the buds were intoxicated with rapture

    And here I am, smitten by the intoxicated one

  5. إنّي وسعدى ولا من أمرنا عجبٌ

    ليلى كليلى وكالمجنون مجنونُ

    I and my bliss are wondrous, but not surprising

    Layla is Layla, and the madman is a madman

  6. فللضيع ليالي البرد عنصرها

    آب وفي وقدات الحرّ كانونُ

    So let the cold nights of winter pass us by

    With August and the fires of July

  7. يهدي لنا طيبَها مرُّ النسيم كما

    تهدي إلينا ذكيَّ المسك دارينُ

    The passing breeze conveys its fragrance to us

    As musk from two perfume shops is presented

  8. غيداءُ لَو بعتُها روحي بقلمةِ ما

    تحتَ اللثامِ فإنّي لست مغبونُ

    If I were to sell my beloved for a small price

    From beneath her veil, I would not be cheated

  9. كأنّ مَبسمها أسنانهُ بردٌ

    أَو لؤلؤٌ مِن نفيسِ الدرِّ مكنونُ

    Her smile is like teeth cooled with ice

    Or pearls concealed within rare gems

  10. لِن واِقس في الطبع حتّى منك تمتزجا

    طبع القساوة ما عاشرت واللينُ

    If you were harsh by nature, even towards me

    The harshness of your nature would not have lasted

  11. إنّ الفَتى لن تقوّمه مثقّفة

    حتّى يعالجه للنار تسخينُ

    A cultured man cannot be corrected

    Until the fire's heat softens him

  12. وَلا يهمّك رزقٌ في مطالبه

    فالرِزق للمرء قبل الكون مخزونُ

    Do not worry about seeking provision

    Sustenance for man was decreed before creation

  13. لَم يختَبر عيشه من طول مرتبة

    ولَم يخلّد بكثر المال قارونُ

    He who boasts of status has not tested living

    Nor was Qarun immortalized by abundant wealth

  14. واِعلم بأنّ الفنا ممّن مشيئته

    يكون مُذ كان منه الكاف والنونُ

    Know that death comes by divine decree

    Since the existence of the letters Kaf and Noon

  15. لا تيأس النفس عند الضيق من فرجٍ

    كم شدّة بعدها قد جاء تهوينُ

    Do not despair when facing hardship

    For many difficulties are followed by relief

  16. ذا النون أُخرج من نون وظلّله

    بقدرة الواحدِ العلّام يقطينُ

    The Noon was created from a Noon

    By the power of The One, The All-Knowing, Most Wise

  17. وزيّن النفسَ بالفعل الجميل فما

    مِن بعده أبَداً للنفس تزيينُ

    Adorn your soul with good deeds, for then

    Your soul will never need adornment again

  18. وذارعاتُ الفلا فتلٌ مرافقها

    تبدي صهوبتها منها العثانينُ

    The she-camels of FuLa are a caravan whose

    Swaying shows their strength and firmness

  19. جِئنا بهنّ الفلا والأين ينهكها

    كأنّهنّ منَ الأين العراجينُ

    We came with them, moving to and fro

    As if swaying back and forth like the letter Ain

  20. حتّى قَدِمنا على الزاكي عرار أبي الط

    طيب الّذي قاله الطبن الميامينُ

    Until we arrived at virtuous Abu Al-Salt

    The perfume whose excellence Al-Taban spoke of

  21. متوّجٌ في المَعالي من تيمّمه

    مستنجحاً فله الإنجاح مضمونُ

    Crowned with the highest virtues when he performed tayammum

    Success assured for him, guaranteed and promised

  22. ما الطورُ يعدل وزناً حلمه أبداً

    ولا شمام ولا الزيتون زيتونُ

    No mountain equals the weight of his forbearance

    Nor cloves, nor olive trees their olive oils

  23. حبر يدين بما قد كان جاء بهِ

    إِلى النبيّ عن الرحمن جبرينُ

    Ink owed him what was brought to the Prophet

    From Jibreel about the Most Merciful

  24. كأنّ كفّيه للوفّاد إن نزلوا

    في سوحِ مغناه سيحون وجيحونُ

    As if his palms were Sihyun and Jaihyun whenever

    They descended in the plains of his glory

  25. كَم وقعةٍ في جيوش المعتدين له

    مِن دونِها أحد بأساً وصفّينُ

    How many battles against transgressing armies

    Where none but he could describe the courage

  26. في ملكه الذئبُ لم يعبث بسائمةٍ

    ولا تضرّ العصافيرَ الشياهينُ

    Under his rule, no wolf preyed on a ewe

    Nor did hawks snatch sparrows

  27. تنميهِ من آل نبهان غطارفةٌ

    بيضُ الوجوه مطاعيم مطاعينُ

    He is served by chivalrous Ghassanites

    Of fair complexion, obedient and compliant

  28. سمحُ الأكفِّ غياث المستغيث أولو

    مكارم في الورى هتون تبونُ

    Generous of palm, helping those in need

    The most noble of people, soft and gentle

  29. يا لابساً برد إجلال وسلطنةٍ

    ومَن لعزّته تعنو السلاطينُ

    O you who wear the coat of majesty and rule

    To whose power even sultans bow down

  30. سننتَ سنّة جودٍ منك فاِنتقلت

    فَرضاً فها هو مفروضٌ ومسنونُ

    You exemplified generosity, so it became

    Obligatory, a confirmed tradition

  31. وليسَ يطمع فيما نلته أحدٌ

    إلّا كَما تنكح العذراء عنّينُ

    None dare hope for what you attained

    Except as a virgin hopes to be deflowered
