أَميلُ مَعَ الذِمامِ عَلى اِبنِ أُمّي
وَآخُذُ لِلصَديقِ مِنَ الشَقيقِ
I lean with the bush towards my mother's son,
And I take from the loyal one for a friend;
وَإِن أَلفَيتَني حُرّاً مُطاعاً
فَإِنَّكَ واجِدي عَبدَ الصَديقِ
And if you think me free, obeyed,
Then you will find me a slave of the loyal one;
أُفَرِّقُ بَينَ مَعروفي وَمَنّي
وَأَجمَعُ بَينَ مالي وَالحُقوقِ
I separate between my kindness and my grudge,
And I gather between my wealth and rights.
