طَلَبُ المَعاشِ مُفَرِقٌ

بَينَ الأَحِبَّةِ وَالوَطَنْ

The struggle for livelihood parts

Loved ones and homeland asunder,

وَمُصَيِّرٌ جَلَدَ الجَلي

دِ إِلى الضَراعَةِ الوَهَنْ

And makes the brave as weak

As the feeble and meek.

حَتّى يُقادَ كَما يُقا

دُ النِضوُ في ثِنيِ الرَسَنْ

He is led like a docile camel,

Between the pegs and ropes.

ثُمَّ المَنِيَّةُ بَعدَ ذا

فَكَأَنَّهُ ما لَم يَكُنْ

Then death comes after that,

As though he never was.
