حوادثُ الأيام تُلقي على

كلّ لبيب في الورى رحلها

The days' events cast upon

Every keen person in existence their bags

استقبل الصّبر إذا أقبلت

نوائبُ لم تستطع حملها

Welcome patience when

Afflictions you cannot withstand approach

واجر مع الأيّام جري الّذي

لا يتّقي في جريه فعلها

And flow with the days, flowing one who

Does not avoid its consequence in his flowing

وإن دعتك النّفس يوماً إلى

مضرّة فاقطع بها حبلها

And if your soul calls you one day

To harm, then sever its rope from it

وسالم الأعداء حتّى إذا

أمكنت الفرصة بادر لها

And be at peace with enemies until when

The opportunity enables, initiate for it

وأظهر السّلم إذا حاربُوا

وإن جنحوا للسّلم فاجنح لها

And show peace if they war

And if they incline to peace, then incline to it
