1. كفى الإثم بعض الظّنّ كيف التّوهّمُ

    أيرضى لبيبٌ بالمظنّة يأثمُ

    Enough sin in some suspicion, how imagining!

    Would a reasonable man be pleased with blame to sin?

  2. ومن يرم بالسّوء البرىء فلم يزل

    بمقت الورى يُرمى ولم يك يُكرم

    Whoever casts aspersions on the innocent

    Has always been cast with people's contempt, not honored

  3. إذا مس عرض الحرّ مُقالة

    فليس لحرّ بالمساس تألّمُ

    When the free man's honor is touched by a saying

    The free man feels no pain from the touch

  4. فما شرُف الياقُوت بالنّار مُؤلمٌ

    ولا الذّهبُ الإبريزُ بالسّبك يهضمُ

    So the excellence of ruby is not painful from fire

    Nor pure gold infringed on by melting

  5. ولا لضياء النّيّرين إذا بدا

    خُسوفُهما عيبٌ به الضّوءُ يُوسمُ

    Nor the luster of two lights when appearing

    Eclipsed a flaw the light with it is marked

  6. وما نقص حدّ السّيف بالسّنّ مُنقصٌ

    ولكن يُرى في فعله وهو أصرمُ

    And not diminished the edge of sword by sharpening

    But its action appears and it is unsheathed

  7. ومن شتم الدُّر النّفيس فلا يرى

    لهُ شاتما بل شاتمُ الدُّرّ يُشتمُ

    And whoever insults the precious pearl

    Sees no insulter but the insulter of the pearl is insulted

  8. لئن يحلُ قدحي في لسان فرّبّما

    حلا وهو يحوي ناقع السّمّ مطعمُ

    If my pisstake settles on the tongue, it may

    Settle containing the exquisite poison

  9. وإن لسعت عرضي عقاربُ ألسن

    فإنّ لساني في اللّواسع أرقمُ

    And if the tongues’ scorpions sting my honor

    Then my tongue among the injuries is sharpest

  10. وما ثوبُ عرض الحرّ لّطخ الخنا

    به غير مطليّ به يتحتّمُ

    And the free man’s honor dress is not stained mud

    Except dyed with what sticks to it

  11. لئن قذفُوا رجما فشهبُ مقاولي

    بهنّ شياطينُ القواذف ترجُمُ

    If they cast stones, the meteors of my speech

    Stone them, demons of those casters stone

  12. سيعلمُ من ألقى مواقد ريبة

    عليّ بمن تلك المواقدُ تُضرمُ

    Will know who kindled suspicions’ fires

    Against me with whom those fires flame

  13. إلى أن يظنّ المحرُوقون بنارها

    عليهم كأنّ البرد منها جهنّمُ

    Until the burnt think by their flames’ blaze

    On them like the cold from it is hell

  14. همُ قصدُوني بالإذاية واجتروا

    على حسد منهمُ وما كنتُ أجرُمُ

    They aimed at me to harm and attacked

    Out of their envy although I did no crime

  15. كفاني ضرّ الحاسدين عذابُهم

    بفضل ولم يُحظوا بما أنا مُنعمُ

    Sufficient the enviers’ torment a punishment

    With bounty and they have not what I enjoy blessed

  16. دعاهُم نسيبُ الشّعر منّي لريبة

    أكلُّ فصيح قال شعرا مُتيّمُ

    Kinship of poetry summoned them against me for suspicion

    Every eloquent said poetry hypocritical

  17. لئن كان لي في الشّعر فسقٌ وريبةٌ

    فإنّ ضميري بالعفاف مُسلّمُ

    If I poetry debauchery and suspicion

    Still my conscience to chastity submits

  18. نعم أنا أهوى كلّ أحور أغيد

    به يُنقضُ الصّبرُ الجميلُ ويُبرمُ

    Yes, I love every tender-waisted gazelle

    For which beautiful patience breaks and goes sour

  19. فما البدرُ إلا من سناهُ ولم تمل

    غُصونُ الرُّبى إلا عليه تُسلّمُ

    The full moon is not but in aspect and the bouquet’s

    Branches tired not but to it submit

  20. يحلُّ عُرى صبري وحلمي بوجهه

    ربيعُ بها لكن عليّ مُحرّمُ

    It violates my patience and forbearance bonds with its face

    Spring therein but for me prohibited

  21. يظنُّ وفي بعض المظنّة ماثمٌ

    تسلّيتُ أو بُحتُ الّذي كنتُ أكتمُ

    Imagines and in some suspicion imprinted

    My joy or I revealed what I concealed

  22. فدع ظنّ سلواني وأيقن بضدّه

    بلى أنا صبٌّ في الصّبابة مُغرمُ

    So stop suspecting me and ascertain the opposite

    Yes, a lover in love stricken, infatuated

  23. إذا صدّ عنّي صُمتُ عن مطعم الكرى

    وإن يرضى فهو العيدُ عندي وأعظمُ

    If deafness turns from me about the fodder of dishonor

    And consents so it is celebration for me and greatest

  24. فيا عجبا منّي أرى الصّوم هجرهُ

    وعيدي منهُ الوصلُ والعيدُ بيرمُ

    Oh, strange me! I see fasting, its estrangement

    And my celebration from it the connection and celebration nullified

  25. عنيتُ أبا عبد الإلاه مُحمّدا

    به مذهبُ النّعمان يُبدا ويُختمُ

    I meant Abu Abdullah Muhammad

    Therewith the Nu‘mani doctrine initiated and concluded

  26. به رمز عين الكنز في الفقه قد غدا

    يُصرّحُ بالمعنى الخفيّ ويعلمُ

    The sign of treasure-eye in jurisprudence has become

    Clarifying the implicit meaning and teaching

  27. تحلّى به صدر الشّريعة إذ بدا

    به مُنتقى الدُرّ اليتيم يبسّم

    Adorned therewith jurisprudence-chest when beginning

    Therewith chosen unique pearl smiles

  28. تجمّع فيه العلم والفضلُ فاغتدى

    به مجمعُ البحرين في النّاس يُعلمُ

    Collected therein knowledge and merit thus exaggerated

    Therewith ocean-confluence among people is known

  29. إذا أظلم المعنى فمصباح ذهنه

    لمنهاجه يهدي به وهو مُظلمُ

    If meaning darkens, lantern of his mind

    Guides therewith and it is dark

  30. سراجٌ بأفق الفهم نهرُ فوائد

    وبحرٌ بأمواج المعارف خضرمُ

    Lamp on horizon of understanding, river of benefits

    Ocean of cognitions foaming white-haired

  31. لهُ فضّ أبكرالفتاوي لأنّه

    أبُو عُذرها ما دام فيها تختّمُ

    Special issuing of edicts is his

    As edicts’ authority alive therein stamped

  32. تراهُ بتحقيق العلوم كأنّما

    أدلّتهُ شمسٌ وبدرٌ مُتمّمُ

    You see him proofs realize as though

    Its evidence sun and full moon accomplished

  33. فأمّا أصولُ الدّين تُدرى فُرُوعُها

    به وأصول الفقه من فيه تُرسمُ

    The religion tenets its details realized

    And jurisprudence-elements therein outlined

  34. وللنّحو أضحى والبيان تفاخُرٌ

    به إن بدوا والخصم فيهنّ يختصمُ

    Grammar and rhetoric pride themselves

    With it if initiated and adversary therein argues

  35. أمولاى هذا الختمُ ختمٌ مُباركٌ

    عليك به نشر الثّنا ليس يكتمُ

    My master this stamp a blessed stamp

    With it virtues’ diffusion no secret kept

  36. ختمت به العيني على الكنز فاغتدى

    عينا عن العلم الّذي فيه معدمُ

    Sealed therewith my eyes on treasure thus exaggerated

    Eyes from knowledge therein concealed

  37. فلا زلت إكليلا على هامة العلى

    يعزّ بكم عصر الزّمان ويفخمُ

    So I remained crown on summit of highest

    Era therewith mighty and grand

  38. ولا زالت العليا ملاك يمينكم

    تُصرّفها فيما تشاءُ فتخدمُ

    And highest heavenly kingdom your right

    Ruling it in what you desire thus serves

  39. وصلّ على خير الأنام مُحمّد

    شفيع الورى في الحشر والخطبُ مظلمُ

    Send peace on best of people

    Worlds’ intercessor on final plain and matter obscured
