1. خالف الصبح من سناهُ جبينُ

    وعلى وجنتيه حُسنٌ مُبينُ

    His morning is unlike dawn in its radiance

    And manifest beauty adorns his cheeks

  2. كلُّ صبّ من طرفه حين يصبو

    ذا طريحٌ بها وهذا طعينُ

    Whenever he turns his gaze each dawn that pours

    This one staggers, the other wails loudly

  3. أغيدٌ قلبهُ عن لصّبّ قاس

    ولهُ في القوام عطف ولينُ

    His heart is tender toward the pouring dawn

    And in his figure are grace and softness

  4. جمعتنا به عشيّةُ أنس

    حول مرسي بها تقرّ العيونُ

    The eve of intimacy has brought us together

    Around a harbor where eyes find rest

  5. ناولتني يمينهُ ياسمينا

    وعلى وجنتيه وردٌ مصونُ

    He handed me jasmine with his right hand

    And on his cheek a guarded rose

  6. فعجبنا لغضن بان نضير

    جُمع الوردُ فيه والياسمينُ

    We were amazed that the likeness of a peer

    Would combine the rose and jasmine

  7. لي دارءٌ من سُقم جفنيه صعبٌ

    وعلاجُ الهوى عليه يهونُ

    I have from the torment of his compelling eyes

    A protection, and curing my love through him is effortless

  8. لو سقى ريقهُ المعالجُ يوما

    لشفى علّتي وزال الأنينُ

    If his saliva healed the curing one day

    It would cure my illness and moaning would vanish
