هل من بشير إلى لقياك بالفرح

يا من مُحيّاه روضي واللمى قدحي

Is there any herald to gladly announce our meeting,

O he whose affection enlivens my garden and refreshes my wine?

أمسي وأصبحُ من صهباء مُقلته

ما بين مُغتبق منها ومُصطبح

Morning and eve, I sigh for the one whose glances,

Alternate between downcast and bright.

مُعلّلا بالأماني من رضاهُ كما

يُعلّلون فطيم الثّدي بالنّشح

Feigning happiness for his approval,

As they pretend contentment for a suckling babe.

كم أضمرُ الوجد عن واشيه مُستترا

والدّمعُ يُبرزُهُ في حال مُفتضح

How much passion I conceal from the spying eyes,

While tears betray it at times of exposure.

يا من إذا لاح في ثوب البها أفلت

شمسُ النّهار وبدرُ التّمّ لم يلح

O you at whose appearance the sun of daylight departed,

And the full moon of darkness did not persist.

إلام جفني وسُهدي في مُصالحة

واللّحظ منك وقلبي غيرُ مُصطلح

Why do I make peace with my eyelids and pillow,

While glances from you and my heart are unreconciled?

أرى سفينة صبري لا فلاح لها

في بحر حُبّك أو تُفضي إلى الفلح

I see my ship of patience cannot succeed,

In the sea of your love, nor reach the shore safely.

مالي وللدّهر حالي منهُ عاطلةٌ

وليس يزدانُ إلاّ من حُلى ملحي

What is life to me when my state is unproductive?

It only shines with the adornments of my passion.

شربتُ كأس اصطباري في إساءته

صبرا وكم محنة جرّت إلى منح

I drank the cup of endurance during his displeasure,

With patience, though so many tribulations it brought.

فرُبّما انتبهت من نوم غفلتها

جفونُهُ فقضت باليسر والفرح

Sometimes, his heedless eyes awaken,

Then ease and joy are accomplished with delight.

لا تيأسن من صُرُوف الدّهر إنّ لها

تقلّبات مع الأفراح والتّرح

Do not despair of the turns of fate, for they

Fluctuate between joy and sadness.

وإن تضق منك حالٌ بالزّمانن وقد

وجدت صدرك منها غير مُنشرح

If a state makes you uneasy in these times, while

You found your heart unexpanded by it.

فاقصد أبا الحسن المولى الأمير عليُّ

بن الأمير حُسين الأكرم السّمح

Then seek Abu Al-Hasan, the Prince Ali

ibn Al-Prince Hussein, the most generous and lenient.

تجد مكانا على الجوزاء تملكه

وتلق بحر نوال غير مُنتزح

You will find a place in Al-Jawza that he rules,

And an unfathomed sea of gifts.

ملكٌ أباحت لهُ العلياء محاسنها

والغيرُ منها لهُ بالحسن لم تبح

A king whose virtues made the highborn graceful to him,

While the rest did not excel him in merit.

مواطنُ النّصر في ماضي صورامه

مُخيّما لم يزل عنها ولم يزح

The grounds of victory were pitched in his past,

Encamped there, unremoved and unshifting.

يكادُ من عفوه من لاجنى أبدا

يجني ليحظى بفضل منهُ لم يُتح

By his clemency, one with no merit,

Can gain favor that was never earned.

لهُ مواردُ أورادُ مؤبّدة

لم يرو من وردها بالذّكر والسّبح

He has everlasting holy recitations,

That none tasted the delight of its remembrance and glorification.

لهُ بذكر حديث المصطفى شغفٌ

لو لم يعر طيبهُ للمسك لم يفح

In narrating the sayings of the Chosen Prophet, he takes pleasure,

Else musk’s fragrance to him would not have appealed.

لولا تعلّم صوبُ الغيث من يده

في البذل سيحا بوجه الأرض لي يسح

Had the rainclouds not learned the way to his hand in generosity,

The face of the earth would not have been swept by pouring rain.

يا أيّها الملكُ المنصور رايتهُ

ومن يطبُ به وصفي ومُمتدحي

O You the supported King, his banner is my creed,

And whom I praise in my poetry and works.

ثق أنّ دهرك بالإقبال مُتّشحٌ

ودهر ضدّك منهُ غير متشح

Trust his rule has donned the garb of prosperity,

While the rule of his enemies is left unclad.

وانحر بعيدك عيد النّحر مُنتصرا

لكلّ كبش من الأعداء مُنتطح

Sacrifice your enemies in the Feast of Sacrifice, triumphantly,

Like slaughtered sheep fully outstretched.

إذا السّعودُ به جاءت مُؤرّخة

بالنصر أقبل عيد النّحر والفرح

When good fortune comes dated with his victory,

The Feast of Sacrifice arrives with joy and delight.
