1. أتُعرف للواشين عندي مغارم

    فتطلب أم ثأرٌ لهم متقادم

    Do you reveal my secrets to the slanderers

    So you may seek revenge for them from past grudges

  2. سعوْا في جفا من مرهفات لحاظه

    حروفٌ لأفعال السلوّ جوازم

    They hastened with harshness from those with delicate glances

    Letters for the acts of pouring are the tools of licentiousness

  3. يُفتر عزم الصبر مني فُتورها

    وينصرها جيش من الشوق هازم

    My determination to be patient is weakened by its languor

    And supported by an army of yearning that defeats it

  4. إذا لمست في العزم الفؤاد يقول لي

    على قدر أهل العزم تأتي العزائم

    When determination touches my heart, it says to me

    According to the determination of people, intentions come

  5. عظيمٌ بلائي فيه يصغر عنده

    وتصغر في عين العظيم العظائم

    My affliction is great, in which it becomes small to him

    And great things become small in the eye of the great

  6. ومن لي به يرضى لو عُمر ساعة

    وتسخط إن شاءت عليّ العوالم

    Who could be pleased if I lived an hour

    And be angry if the worlds desired me

  7. على ورد خديه العذار كمائم

    ومن سحر لحظيه عليه تمائم

    Upon his rosy cheeks is the fragrance of musk as the stars

    And the charm of his glances upon it are talismans

  8. فليس لصب منه في الوصل نافع

    وليس له من صارم اللحظ عاصم

    So there is no benefit to passion in union with him

    Nor protection from the glancing sword for him

  9. رشا قوَّم الرحمان نير خلقه

    بأحسن تقويم فعز المقاوم

    Whom the Merciful created with the most upright composition

    So the resistant became dear in honor

  10. معدَّل قد يبهت الشمس حسنه

    وللشمس بالتعديل بهتٌ مصادم

    Perfect in creation that the sun is bewildered by his beauty

    And for the sun, comparing itself to him is conflicting

  11. ترى للداردي حيرة من طلوعه

    لذاك لها وصفٌ التحير لازم

    You see the shining moon is confused by his rising

    For that it has the description of confusion always

  12. تحكم عبد الخال في مصر حسنه

    وكافور عبدُ وهو في مصر حاكم

    Abdul Khaliq judges by his beauty in Egypt

    While Kafoor is a servant in Egypt, he rules

  13. إلا أرغم الله الوشاة فإنهم

    سعاة للأنف المغرمين رواغم

    Except that God will defeat the slanderers, for they

    Are seekers of harm for those passionately in love

  14. أذا همَّ من أهوى بعطف تصدّه

    بنعت به الإبدال للعطف حاتم

    When they intend to turn away one I love

    I describe changing affection for him as Hatem’s trait

  15. الا ما لدهري لسم يحل عن إساءتي

    وما ريء يوما وهو للغيظ كاتم

    Unless my fate has a poison to stop its harm to me

    And was never concealed, while full of rage

  16. كأن له عندي عظيم جناية

    فلم تنس أو خوف البواد رواهم

    It is as if it has a great crime against me

    That it does not forget or fears the separation of loved ones

  17. أن بين دهر في الحقيقة أهله

    أفاع وفي رؤيا العيون أوادم

    That between fate and reality, its people

    Are kind, and in the vision of eyes, loving

  18. هُم حاولوا إنزال قدري إلى الثرى

    ومنزل قدري للثريا مُتاخم

    They tried to bring down my worth to the ground

    While my destination is adjacent to the highest limit

  19. أتُنزلني الأعداء في غير منزلي

    ولم تُلف إلا بالرؤوس العمائم

    Do enemies bring me down to other than my rightful place

    When only turbans suit the highest heads

  20. تُرى جهلوا قدر العلى أم تجاهلوا

    وهل يجهل الشمس المنيرة عالم

    Do you see they are ignorant of the value of the exalted

    Or ignore it? Does the shining sun not know the world?

  21. كأني دربين عمي بظلمة

    بدا أو سراج ما له شام شائم

    It is as if my path is blind in darkness

    That appears or a lamp that has no wick

  22. كأني عبيق الطيب يعبق نشره

    لدى فاقدي الشمّ والطيب فاغم

    It is as if I am fine perfume that spreads its aroma

    To those who lack smell and perfume overwhelms

  23. كأني بليغ القول في منطق امريء

    وقد خُوطبت عجما به أو أعاجم

    It is as if I have eloquent speech in the logic of a deaf man

    And was addressed in gibberish or gibberish

  24. كأني بين الصم ألحان مطرب

    تميد له صُمّ الجبال العواصم

    It is as if I am a composer of melodies among the deaf

    That make even solid mountains sway

  25. إلى كم أزين الدهر وهو يشينني

    وأطريء في أمداحه وهو ذامم

    How long will I adorn fate, and it disgraces me

    And I am excessive in praising it, yet it blames

  26. مديحي لأهل الدهر والذم منهم

    كلانا بإفك المدح والذمّ آثم

    My praise of the people of fate and their blame of me

    We are both sinners in exaggerating praise and blame

  27. وما كلّ مدح للفضائل مُثبت

    وما كلّ ذمّ بالنقائص واسم

    Not all praise of virtues affirms

    Nor all blame with flaws names

  28. فربّ مديح كان بالقدح مُغريا

    وربة ذمّ وهو بالمدح ئاقم

    Sometimes praise baits with condemnation

    And some blame aligns with praise

  29. أنا من إذا أثنى على فضله امرؤٌ

    عليه غدا يُثني الثنا وهو باسم

    When a man praises another’s merits

    Tomorrow he changes his praise, while tranquil

  30. لئن كان بالأسوار يزدان بعضهم

    فربّ سوار زينته المعاصم

    If some adorn themselves with bracelets

    Then some bracelets’ adornment are the wrists

  31. ولا غرو أن يخفى الجهول فضائلي

    فكلّ تراب للذّخائر كاتم

    No wonder the ignorant conceal my virtues

    Every speck of dust hides treasures

  32. وإن نم بي واش حسودٌ فإنما

    بإحراق عود الطيب تذكو شمائم

    If an envious slanderer sleeps cursed against me

    By burning aromatic wood, its fragrance increases

  33. وقد ضاق رحب الأرض إذ صح أن لي

    مقاما على الجوزاء فيه نعائم

    The vastness of the earth narrowed when it was true that

    I have a position in Gemini in which there are pleasures

  34. ألا ليت شعري هل خطوبي تنتهي

    إلى غاية أم هكذا الدهر دائم

    Oh how I wish I knew will my troubles end

    Or will this be how fate always is?

  35. غريب ديار حيث حل لأنه

    له موطنٌ للفرقدين مُزاحم

    A stranger in lands where he settled

    For he has a place for the two bright stars adjacent

  36. له ظلّ يرثي كلّ قاس فؤاده

    وأعدى العدى يغدو له وهو راحم

    He has a shadow that grieves all those with hardened hearts

    And the most hostile becomes kind to him

  37. له رحمة يذري الغمام دمُوعه

    وما نحبت إلا عليه الحمائم

    He has mercy with which the clouds weep their tears

    And none were friendly to him except the doves

  38. فمن دون ما يبغي عواد تعوقُه

    ومن دون ما يهوى تحزّ الغلاصم

    So without what he desires, disasters impede him

    And without what he loves, seperations wound

  39. فأهون ما يلقاه أهوال حادث

    وأطيب ما تحلو لديه العلاقم

    Yet the easiest of what he faces are terrors of events

    And the most delicious of what is sweet to him are morsels

  40. بشائره في كلّ يوم فجائع

    تُعاقبها أضعافها وتُصادم

    His tidings everyday are calamities

    Whose doubles and triples collide with him

  41. لحى الله دهرا لا تزال صُروفُه

    تحاربني طُول المدى وأسالم

    May God shame a fate whose diversions

    Battle me for prolonged time, and I am peaceful

  42. كمن أنفه نحو السماء وأسته

    إلى الماء غمّ وهو للأنف راغم

    Like one whose nose is to the sky and his base

    To the water, worried and forced upon his nose

  43. يراني أدنى ما جنيت كأنما

    جنته من الأحشاء منه صوارم

    He sees me as the lowest of what I have reaped

    As if I have harvested it from his bowels with swords

  44. ويرشد من دوني إلى طُرق العلى

    ومثلي سار في الضلالة هائم

    And he guides others away from me to the paths of exaltation

    And one like me walked the paths of misguidance, lost

  45. وقد سدّ باب النفع دوني وانثنى

    يفتح باب الضرّ لي وهو حازم

    He has closed the door of benefit from me and folded it

    To open the door of harm to me, determined

  46. ومن لي برزق في سدّ لخلتي

    ومن دونه أسد الثرى والأراقم

    Who could provide me sustenance with my solitude

    And without it, the ground and pillars overwhelm me?

  47. كأني أرى الأرزاق يوم تقسمت

    توزع رزقي بينهن المقاسم

    It is as if I see sustenances when apportioned

    Shared my sustenance between them, the dividers

  48. قضيت زماني بالتأسف والمنى

    ولم أحظ من دهري بما أنا رائم

    I spent my time in sorrow and wishes

    And gained nothing from my fate that I hoped for

  49. وما ساءني خل فلذت بغيره

    وما بتّ عما قيل والقلب نادم

    I did not dislike the vacancy, so I was content without it

    Nor stayed from what was said, while my heart regretted

  50. متى همّ بالإكرام دهري عاقه

    لئيم لأركان المكارم هادم

    When has my fate cared to honor me, but habit

    Prevents it, the demolisher of the pillars of generosity

  51. ولم أر من إكرامه لي وسيلة

    سوى مدح من تُعزى إليه المكارم

    I have not seen from its generosity to me any means

    Except praising one to whom generosity is attributed

  52. أبي الحسن المولى الزكي عليّ من

    به الدهر أعياد لنا ومواسم

    My master, the righteous, the pure, Ali - through him

    Fate has holidays and seasons for us

  53. مليك إذا الأملاك أبدت مفاخرا

    ففخر عُلاه بالسماكين راسم

    A king - when kingdoms reveal pride,

    The pride of his exaltation outlines the celestial

  54. مليك إذا الامال منك توجهت

    إليه فثق أن الإياب مغانم

    A king - when hopes turn to you from him

    Then trust the returns will be profitable

  55. ولم يثنه قول النصيح بغشه

    بأن صلات المادحين مغارم

    Flattering advice did not discourage him from its deceit

    That the prayers of praisers are covetous

  56. يرى المدح يُحيي ربه وهو ميت

    ويبقى مدى الدنيا وتفنى العوالم

    He sees praise giving life to its Lord though dead

    And lasting the duration of life though worlds perish

  57. بحلم وعدل خص هذا لمن جنى

    وهذا لجرح النائبات مراهم

    With wisdom and justice distinguishing this one who harvested

    And that for the wounds of misfortunes that afflict

  58. ومورد أوراد بذكر إلهه

    له عذبت ما حولها حام حائم

    A river of litanies by mentioning his God

    Which by its sweetness, surround it, confused and roaming

  59. وأضحت دروس العلم بعد دروسها

    رسُوم لها تُحيا به ومعالم

    After his lessons, the teachings of knowledge

    Became customs that give it life and landmarks

  60. بليغ جواد منه سحبان باقلا

    يروح ويغدو ما درى منه حاتم

    Eloquent, generous - from it torrents of clouds rain

    Coming and going, like Hatem, it knows no limit

  61. مليك ليالي النحس منه بواكيا

    تولت وأيام السعود بواسم

    A king - by him nights of ill fortune complain

    And days of good fortune smile

  62. له وثبات في وغى الحرب تنثني

    وتجبن عنهنّ الكماة الضراغم

    He has firmness in the ferocity of war that bends

    And the archers coward from it

  63. له عفة لو أنها في الورى سرت

    لما علقت بالعالمين ماثم

    He has chastity - if it circulated in the world

    It would not have clung to both worlds, blemished

  64. وبشر مُحيا لم يزل مُتهللا

    به يهتدي السارون والليل فاحم

    A living giving good news - he did not cease to shine

    By it the guided and confused night walkers follow

  65. تقلد سيف الحق حتى أغدت

    على كل مظلوم تردّ المظالم

    He assumed the sword of truth until

    He restored justice for every wronged

  66. إذا انبسجت مُزن السماء وكفه

    فذاك له كفّ وذلك ساجم

    When the knights of heaven extend and his palm

    That is for him as a palm, and that is submissive to him

  67. نعمنا بها في ظل عيش كأنما

    بنا من جنان الخلد حفت نعائم

    By his excellence the world is united

    And no critic deterred him from doing so

  68. له رأفة بالمسلمين وغيرة

    عليهم كأن المسلمين محارم

    Your sacrifice - what is the sin of one whose only crime

    Was your finest praise, closely befriended?

  69. لهُ النّصر عبد والرشادُ مُصاحب

    لهُ وأخُوهُ الصّبر والسعدّ خادمٌ

    He is disgraced by expulsion, separation, and envied

    While others rejoice in it and the last curses him

  70. تحصّن من ربّ العلى فوثُوقهُ

    به من عدوّ كيدُهُ مُتعاظمُ

    Even if another committed the sin, gathering all of it

    None of what stands against me would touch him

  71. أمولاي يا من فضلهُ شمل الورى

    ولم يُثنه عن فعل ذلك لائمُ

    If my sin is loving you and praising you

    Then I persist in those sins, obliged

  72. فديتك ما ذنبُ الّذي لم يكن لهُ

    سوى مدحك الأسنى خليل منادمُ

    If I had any sin, your benefits encompassed

    All the enemies - how can the affectionate obligated sin?

  73. يُهانُ بطرد وانقطاع وحُسّد

    هُ شامت فيهم وآخرُ شاتمُ

    Yet I am innocent of all faults

    And my honor is safe from all examples

  74. ولو مُذنب غيري جنى الذّنب كلّه

    ما مسّهُ بعض الّذي بي قائمُ

    If not for my praise of you, I would be stripped

    In your presence, censured - against me are sharp swords

  75. لئن كان ذنبي حُبّكم ومديحكم

    فإنّي على تلك الذُّنوب مُلازمُ

    But I was brief in praising you, so they spoke ill of me at length

    Cursing me while innocent of sin

  76. وهب أنّ لي ذنبا فقد عمّ نفعكم

    جميع العدى كيف الودُود الملازمُ

    If I had not been sparing in praising you

    I would have won, and none could diminish my worth

  77. على أنّني من كلّ عيب مُبرأ

    وعرضي من كلّ المثالب سالمُ

    If they described me with my faults

    It would be disgraceful, but the living is safe from blame

  78. ولولا مديحي فيك لم تكُ جُرّدت

    بحضرتكم للذّمّ فيّ صوارمُ

    But I was described with what is in them, and often

    The generous are repelled by descriptions of the vile

  79. ولكن قصرتُ المدح فيكم فطوّلت

    وُشاتي في ذمّي وما أنا جارمُ

    Neither the superstitions nor omens that slanderers attribute to me

    Have I ever adopted, nor any of the inauspicious

  80. ولو أنّني لم أقتصر عن مديحكم

    لفزتُ ولم يُوجد لقدري هاضمُ

    I see an excuse for them in what is between us

    And do not blame what they attribute to me

  81. ولو وصفوني بالّذي فيّ قادح

    لهان وما حيّ من القدح سالمُ

    Know that I am only human, so they affirmed

    For me some of the states of humans to agree

  82. ولكن بما فيهم وُصفتُ وطالما

    تردّتْ بأوصاف اللّئام الأكارم

    If it were said my fortune has ample misfortune from them

    I would believe what my opponent claims

  83. وما نسب الحسّادُ لي من تشاؤُم

    وما انتسبت يوما إليّ مشائمُ

    Yes, I have abundant misfortune in enemies

    And for the vacuum, constant good fortune in praise

  84. فإنّي أرى عُذرا لهم فيه بيننا

    وما أنا فيما أسندُوا لي لائمُ

    If good and bad omens are attributed to names

    Then for our master the prince, my name contains sympathy

  85. دروا أنّني بعض الدّراري فأثبتوا

    لي البعض من أحوالها ليلائموا

    So what can the master do with my name

    That the time titled me with, agreeably fitting?

  86. ولو قيل حظّي وافرُ النّحس منهمُ

    لصدّق فيما يدّعيه مُخاصم

    Moreover, before I was called Baraa

    And in my birth horoscope the night was settled

  87. نعم لي هجو وافرُ النّحس في العدى

    وللخلّ مدح كاملُ السّعد دائمُ

    With your livelihood, O cursed of the ill-fortuned two

    Have they thrown at me, or with which my name is deluded?

  88. لئن يُعزى للأسماء يمن وطيرة

    وفي اسمي لمولانا الأمير مواهمٌ

    But my superior virtue was bad for them and for me

    So any description of harm stands against it

  89. فماذا على المولى بقلب مُلقّبي

    بما شاء ممّا فيه يُمن مُلائمُ

    Since they failed to match my prose, they burned

    With the embers of meanings, striking at hearts

  90. على أنّني قبلا دُعيتُ ببارع

    وفي عقد إشهادي ليلي قائمُ

    They attributed influence to my name, not knowing

    By attributing it to a star, the scholar nullified

  91. بعيشك أيّ المنحسين أشدّ ما

    رموني به أو ما به أسمي واهمُ

    Does not the Merciful's people fear their ignorance

    Throwing at me what no critic has ever thrown?

  92. ولكن عُلا فضلي أساءت لهم ولي

    فكلّ به وصفُ الإساءة قائم

    Or has the revelation stated "Do not call each other

    By nicknames" - in it forbidding that, decisive

  93. ومُذ عجزُوا عن مثل نظمي أحرقُوا

    بشهب معان للقلوب وراجمُ

    Have they not heard “There is no infection or omen” as

    Came from the prophet of prophets, the final

  94. هم نسبوا التّأثير لاسمي وما دروا

    بنسبته للنّجم كفّر عالم

    Does it not break hearts, and breaking them

    Corrupts a man’s merits, and man is sinful?

  95. أما يتّقي الرّحمان قوم بجهلهم

    رموني بما لم يرمه قطّ رائم

    They say higher than him are Zaid and Khalid

    And how many are better, yet he composes poetry

  96. أم جاء في التّنزيل لا تنابزُوا

    بالألقاب نهي فيه عن ذاك جازمُ

    The merit of a person is not equal: jewels and pebbles

    To him, and eloquent speech and prattling

  97. ألم يُرو لا عدوى ولا طيرة كما

    أتى عن نبي للنّبيين خاتم

    I am amazed by people who envy me

    For sustenance I do not possess, overflowing

  98. أما فيه كسرٌ للقلوب وكسرُها

    مُخلّ بفضل المرء والمرءُ آثمُ

    If I had wealth like my poetry, I would leave it

    To them, admitting that my poetry is inept

  99. يقولون أعلى منه زيد وخالد

    وكم منهُ خير وهو للشّعر ناظمُ

    My master - I am not the first composer

    They have pelted with sin though innocent

  100. وما فضلُ شخص يستوي الدُّرُّ والحصا

    لديه ومنطيقُ اللّسان وباكمُ

    If only you inclined toward me slightly

    My praise would be pressing upon you, colliding

  101. عجبت لقوم في الورى يحسدونني

    على غير ما عندي من الرّزق ناجمُ

    Your approval is praise of the blameworthy and your disapproval

    Is eternal blame upon each praised

  102. ولو كان لي رزق كشعري تركتهُ

    لهم باعترافي إنّ شعري ساقمُ

    If you have veiled me from your exaltation, the lowly

    That is evidence of good to me, standing

  103. وما أنا يا مولاي أوّل نآظم

    رموهُ بإجرام وما هُو جارمُ

    For after the horizon is veiled by clouds

    The rain descends upon earth and lightnings, smiling

  104. ولو أنت لي وجّهت بعض توجّه

    لكان لأمداحي لديك تزاحُم

    No cloud covers the sun of day

    If it has veiled it, though numerous

  105. رضاكم على المذمُوم مدح وسُخطكم

    على كلّ ممدُوح لهُ الذّمُّ دائمُ

    The enemies say his good poetry is lost

    And he rambled censuring enemies, ardent

  106. لئن حجبتني عن عُلاك أسافل

    فذاك دليلُ الخير عندي قائم

    So I said to them my praise is not lost, but

    Its rewards come to it progressively accumulating

  107. ففي إثر حجب الأفق بالغيم يبتدي

    نُزُولُ الحيا بالأرض والبرق باسمُ

    I have not seen any sin I have committed against people

    Except long superior merit, which is forbidden sustenance

  108. وليس على حال تدُومُ غمامةٌ

    إذا حجبت شمس النّهار غمائمُ

    O my master - I have served your side

    With rare praise, which others do not serve

  109. تقولُ العدى قد ضاع جيّدُ شعره

    وخاطر في ذمّ العدى وهو عاشمُ

    If I had the slightest livelihood

    Tomorrow my praise of you would be pressing

  110. فقلتُ لهم ما ضاع مدحي وإنّما

    جوائزُهُ تأتي لهنّ تراكمُ

    So grant me what will spread mention of you

    Eternally in gratitude, which no time diminishes

  111. ولم أر لي في النّاس ذنبا جنيتهُ

    سوى طُول فضل وهو للسرّ زق حارمُ

    I have remained, trusting your exalted position

    Which time serves eternally

  112. أمولاي إنّي قد خدمتُ جنابكم

    بدُرّ مديح ما به الغيرُ خادمُ

    O my master - take from me the stanzas of a poem

    In which the beautiful meanings are gentle

  113. ولو كان لي في العيش أدنى كفاية

    غدا فيك مدحي موجُه مُتلاطمُ

    No price in them from you except approval

    And without which, the eagle still confused

  114. فهب لي ما يبقى به نشرُ ذكركم

    مدى الدّهر شُكرا ما لهُ قطّ صارمُ

    I have prolonged, but about your exaltation, brief

    For none praising have fully encompassed your excellence

  115. وإني من جدواك مازلت آمناً

    بمنزلة علياً لها الدهر خادم

    So you remain victorious, supported

    For you rule this kingdom and fate

  116. وإنّي على مقدار فضلك طالبٌ

    من النّفع لا مقدار مدحي رائمُ

    Congratulations on Eid al-Adha, my master, it is

    For you in it, a victory concluded in joy

  117. ولستُ بما أسديت لي أنا قانعٌ

    ومنك لمن دُوني العطايا العظائمُ

  118. ويرتعُ في خصب بغيث نوالكم

    وزهرُ مديحي فيك بالطّيب ناسمُ

  119. ولم يكُ مدحي في عُلاك مُفخّما

    لذكرك بل مدحي بذكرك فاخمُ

  120. أمولاي خُذ منّي بُيوت قصيدة

    بهنّ خريداتُ المعاني نواعمُ

  121. ولا ثمنٌ فيهنّ منكم سوى الرّضى

    ومرتبة من دُونها النّسرُ حائمُ

  122. أطلتُ ولكن في عُلاك وجيزة

    فعلياك لم يستوفها قط ناظمُ

  123. فلا زلت منصور الجناب مُؤيّدا

    وأنت لهذا الملك والدّهر حاكمُ

  124. ويهنيك عيد النّحر مولاي إنّه

    لكم فيه فتحٌ بالمسرّة خاتمُ
