Claude 2

  1. فَإِنَّ أَبا مُعرِضٍ إِذ حَسا

    مِنَ الراحِ كَأساً عَلى المِنبَرِ

    For Abu Mu'arridh when he tasted

    A cup of wine upon the pulpit -

  2. خَطيبٌ لَبيبٌ أَبو مُعرِضٍ

    فَإِن ليمَ في الخَمرِ لَم يَصبِرِ

    A skillful orator, Abu Mu'arridh!

    If he found no joy in wine, he would not have waited.

  3. أَحَلَّ الحَرامَ أَبو مُعرِضٍ

    فَصارَ خَليعاً عَلى المَكبَرِ

    Abu Mu'arridh made the unlawful lawful,

    And so became a debauchee and trouble-causer.

  4. يُجِلُّ اللِئامَ وَيَلحى الكِرام

    وَإِن أَقصروا عَنهُ لَم يُقصِرِ

    He respects base men and insults the noble;

    And if they fall short of him, he does not fall short.
