1. استوفِ شَأْوَيْكَ من عزٍّ وتمكينِ

    واذهبْ بحظَّيْكَ منْ دنيا ومن دينِ

    Achieve your goal of might and firm control

    And seek your fortune in this world and faith

  2. وَافْرُغْ لشأنيكَ من بأْسٍ ومنْ كَرَمٍ

    بطشٌ شديدٌ ومنٌّ غيرُ مَمْنُون

    Empty yourself for your affair of valor and generosity

    A severe grip and bounty beyond measure

  3. وكِلْ عِدَاك لما تَطْوي صُدُورُهُمُ

    يكفيكَ منهمْ ويكفيهمْ ويكفيني

    Set your enemies about to what torments their hearts

    Enough for them, enough for me, enough for you

  4. وزاحمِ النجْمَ في عُليا مطالعه

    فليس قَدْرُكَ بالأدْنى ولا الدُّون

    Vie with the star in its high orbit

    Your worth is neither low nor mean

  5. واجعلْ مُحَيّاكَ لي عبداً أُسرُّ به

    فإنْ فعلتَ فما حظّي بمغبون

    Make your life for me a secret joy

    If you do so my lot is not denied

  6. وارْتَحْ إلى الحمدِ من قُرْبٍ ومن بُعُدٍ

    فإنّهُ خُلُقٌ منْ آلِ حَمْدين

    Incline yourself to praise both near and far

    For it is the trait of the Hamdan clan

  7. الضامنينَ لما قالوا إذا هَرَفَتْ

    بعضُ الرجال بِنُكرٍ غيرِ مضمون

    The guarantors of their word though some men

    Degrade it, with no guarantee or measure

  8. والحاكمينَ لما شاؤوا إذا غُمِزَتْ

    بعضُ الرجال بمردودٍ وموهون

    The judges of what they desire if some men

    Demean it, rejected and dishonored

  9. أقمارُ حُسْنٍ وإحسانٍ أُسودُ شرىً

    وغاثةٌ مُزْنُ تأميلٍ وتأمين

    Moons of beauty and kindness, lords who bought evil

    And a grieving ally of hopes and security

  10. ما شئتَ في السّلْمِ منْ حلمٍ ومن كَرمٍ

    وفي لظى الحربِ أمثالُ المجانين

    What you wish in peace of patience and generosity

    And in the fury of war like madmen

  11. إنّ السَّرَاءَةَ لا تزْكُو لِمُختَبِرٍ

    حتى يكونَ لها حظٌّ من اللين

    Success is not purified for one who tests

    Until it has a share of gentleness

  12. منَ الأراقمِ صالوا كلَّ يومِ وغىً

    إذْ كلُّ أرْقمَ يعدو فوقَ تِنّين

    Of the archers they loosed each day clamor

    For each archer gallops over the hissing of arrows

  13. فازتْ قِدَاحُ أبيهمْ حينض أرْسلَها

    بكلِّ عِلْقٍ منَ العلياءِ مَكْنُون

    Their father's bows prevailed when he unleashed them

    With every twisted branch of the lofty concealed

  14. ربيعةُ القُرَشيْ السامي بِهِمَّتِهِ

    منهُ إلى نَسَبٍ بالنَّجْمِ مَقْرون

    Rabia the Qurashi, sublime in his ambition

    From him to lineage associated with the stars

  15. ومن كُلَيْبٍ أفادوا كلَّ مَكْرُمةٍ

    قَتْلَ الملوكِ وإحياءَ المساكين

    From Kulayb they exemplified every honor

    Slaying kings and giving life to the wretched

  16. وما أخوهُ عديٌّ إذ يقومُ بها

    يومَ الذْنائبِ في وَهْنٍ ولا هون

    When his brother Adi rose there

    On the day of calamity in weakness but no disgrace

  17. حياةُ صِدْقٍ ومَوْتٌ في ذُرى كَرمٍ

    يا نفسَ كلِّ كريمٍ هكذا كوني

    A life of sincerity and a death in the path of generosity

    O soul of every generous one, be thus

  18. وكم أبٍ لكَ لولا طيبُ عُنصُرِهِ

    لم يُوجَدِ الطيبُ طبعاً في الرَّياحين

    How many a father, were it not for his noble origin
