ضاحكٌ عن جُمانْ

سافرٌ عن بَدرِ

Laughing about the passions,

Traveling beyond the full moon,

ضَاقَ عنهُ الزمانْ

وَحَواءُ صَدْري

Time has become too narrow for him,

And my chest is hot with love.

آهْ ممَّا أجِدْ

شَفَّني ما أجِدُ

Oh! From what I feel,

His kindness heals what I feel,

قامَ بي وقعَدْ

باطشٌ متَّئِدُ

He stood by me and settled,

A persistent lover.

كلما قلتُ قَدْ

قالَ لي أينَ قَدُ

Whenever I say “it’s done,”

He says “where is it done?”

وَانثنىَ خُوطَ بانْ

ذا مَهّزٍ نَضْرِ

And the slender one bent,

With soft shaking and freshness,

عابَثَتْهُ

يَدَانْ للصَّبا والقَطْرِ

Her hands toyed,

With youth and raindrops,

ليسَ ليْ مِنكَ بُدْ

خذ فُؤاديَ عنْ يَدْ

I have no choice but you,

Take my heart by the hand,

لم تَدعْ لي جَلدْ

غير أني أجْهَدْ

You left me no composure,

But I am drained.

مَكرعٌ مِنْ شَهَدْ

واشتياقي يَشْهَدْ

A sip from honey,

And my longing bears witness,

ما لِبِنْتِ الدِّنانْ

وَلِذاكَ الثَّغْرِ

For the daughter of the faith,

And that smile,

أين محيا الزّمان

من مُحيَّا الجمر

Where is the life of time,

Compared to the life of embers,

بي هوى مُضْمَرُ

ليتَ جَهْدي وَفقُهْ

In me is hidden passion,

If only my effort understands,

كلمَّا يَظهَرُ

ففؤادي أُفْقُهْ

Whenever it appears,

Then my heart understands,

ذلك المنظرُ

لا يُداوي عِشْقُه

His love cannot be healed,

By my father, no matter what,

بأبي كيفَ كانْ

فلكيٌّ دُرِّي

A stellar cycle,

Shone until it was clear,

راق حتى اسْتَبان

عُذْرُهُ وعُذري

His excuse and mine,

Is there a way to you,

هل إليكَ سبيلْ

أوْ إلى أنْ أيْأَسا

Or until I despair,

A tear or a breath,

ذبتُ إلا قليلْ

عَبْرةً أو نَفَسَا

What can I say,

My hopes in fate are bad,

ما عسى أن أقولْ

ساءَ ظني بعسى

And all is finished,

While I seek advice,

وانقضى كلُّ شانْ

وأنا أسْتَشْرِي

Taking off the reins,

My panic or my patience,

خالعاً منْ عِنَانْ

جَزَعي أو صَبري

No blame on whom blames,

If he refrains from me,

ما عَلى مَنْ يَلومْ

لو تَنَاهَى عَنّي

Is there besides Rim’s love,

His religion is to blame me?

هلْ سوَى حبِّ ريمْ

دينُهُ التَجني

I am confused in it,

While it makes me sing,

أنا فيهِ أهِيمْ

وَهَوْ بي يُغنيِّ

I saw you before,

You don’t know anymore,

قَدْ رأيتكْ عيان

ليس عليكَ ستدريْ

Time will be long,

And forget my mention,

سَيَطول الزمانْ

وستنسى ذكري

As for my love, it has weakened,

So I find no shelter,

أمّا وَجْدِي فَقَدْ عَتَا

فلا ألْقى مَلاذا

And no rest for me,

Love him,

ولا آلفُ مَهْلا

أحْبِبْ

For me, make me love,

Fascinated,

به إليَّ أحبب

مُعْجِبْ

Oh he, and he is most strange,

He takes me,

يا له وهو أعْجَب

يَذْهَبْ

In every doctrine,

When we quarreled and parted,

بي في كلِّ مذهبْ

لمَّا عنّا وعنَّتا

I was guided but why?

And I came humbled,

تصدَّيْتُ فلاذا

وأقبلتُ مُدِلا

Repenting,

To the advice of him who blamed me,

تَبَّا

لِنَهْيِ مَن نهاني

Oh my love for the beauties!

Your eyes made me angry,

لبَّا

وجدي من الغواني

But this will not help,

His glances are his soldiers,

غَضْبي

تقولُ إذ تراني

His words are his coolness,

From blessings that delight him,

مَهما

عينايَ أوْجَبَتا

But if you glance,

You see people as rubbish,

فلنْ يَعْنُوَ هذا

بالقربِ ذُلاًّ

So greet him, or else

Innovate,

سلطانْ

ألحاظْهُ جنودُهُ

With soft singing,

That grazes,

بستانْ

ألفاظه برودُهْ

In my heart sincerely,

Rising,

ريَّانْ

من نعمةٍ تَؤودُهْ

Like the stars rise,

He is named,

ألمَّا

فإنْ تَلفّتا

Intentionally to be insulted,

He matched both the ignorant,

ترى الناس جذاذا

فَسالِمْهُ وإلاّ

With that boy,

She leaned,

أبْدِعْ

بشادنٍ رخيمِ

Towards me, upset,

Her garden,

يَرْتَعْ

في قلبيَ السليم

Didn’t know what to do,

She was confused,

يَطْلُعْ

مطالعَ النجوم

And her mother listened,

Of what,

يُسَمَّى

عمداً لِيُنْعَتا

Makes this young man love me,

And she doesn’t know why,

كلا الحائِمَينِ حاذَى

به ذاكَ المحلا

We won’t say no to him.

حَنتْ

إليَّ وهْيَ تَجْزَعْ

جُنَّتْ

لم تدرِ كيفَ تَصْنَعْ

غلَّتْ

وأُمُّها تَسمَّعْ

مَمَّا

يَعْشَقُني ذا الفَتى

ولا تدري لماذا

ولا نقُلْ له لا
