  2. They fed it with fire until

    we paid its archers their due with its departure.

  3. The fires sought to burn the one that

    remained, but could not burn it,

  4. until, when it could no longer extricate

    itself and had no strength to withstand engulfment,

  5. they burned it with fire until it was restored

    among those whose fellows are the birds of the air.

  6. And they restored its souls to its bodies;

    after decay, they coursed through its veins.

  7. And they remained as bodies everlasting, after

    their cast-off remains had decayed within its layers.

  8. It became immortal: no fire could burn it,

    nor could any water drown it.

  9. So discern God's secret within you, for it is

    to people of understanding like the sun in its radiance.

  10. The secret is within you, though you know it not, just as

    the doves know not what lies upon their necks.
