نغدُو إليكَ إِذا اعترتْنَا حاجةٌ

ونصُدُّ عنكَ إِذا توسَّمْنَا الغِنَى

When need befalls us, to you we come,

Yet from you we turn, when wealth we deem.

فإِذا انقطعنا كان حلمُكَ نائِباً

وإِذا حضَرنا كان عطفُكَ لَيِّنَا

When we depart, your patience takes our place,

When we appear, your kindness makes us lean.

ترعَى لمن غابَ الذمامَ مجاملاً

وتُنيلُ من حضَر الرغائبَ مُحسنا

For one gone far, your care keeps safe their name;

For one near by, your gifts rain down their dreams.
