ونَيلوفَرٍ أعناقُه أبداً صُفْرُ
كأنَّ بهِ سُكراً وليس به سُكْرُ
Roses ever bent their heads in hue of gold
As if with wine, yet naught of wine they hold
إِذا انفتحتْ أوراقُه فكأنَّها
وقد ظَهرتْ ألوانُها البيضُ والصُّفْرُ
When petals open wide, their inner faces
Show hues of yellow and of white in places
أناملُ صَبَّاغٍ صُبِغْنَ بنيلةٍ
وراحتُهُ بيضاءُ في وسطِها تبرُ
The fingers of a dyer dyed in henna
Its heart left white, a bright spot in its center
