حُرِمْتُكِ إذ رُزِقْتُكِ بعدَ حِرْصٍ

كذاكَ يكون حِرمانُ الحريصِ

When I lost you after longing for you

That is how deprivation treats the coveter

وقُمتِ عليَّ بالغالي ولكن

تناولَكِ المنيةُ بالرخيصِ

And you turned against me with high prices but

Death took you for less

لقد سبقَ القضاءُ برغمِ أنفي

وليس على المقدَّرِ من محيصِ

Destiny had its way despite my defiance

And the decreed cannot be avoided

يقولون اصطبِرْ وتعزَّ عنها

وكيف عزاءُ مطعونِ الفريصِ

They say be patient and be consoled

But how can the mortally stabbed be consoled

ولو أني قدرتُ شققتُ قلبي

فكيف أُلامُ في شَقِّ القميصِ

If I could I would split my heart open

So how do I blame the shirt's tearing
