إذا ما الطلق لم يغسل بماء

ويخرج منه أجزاء السوادِ

If dirt is not washed with water

And black particles are not removed

فلا حلّ لديه ولا مزاج

يرجّى والمصير إلى الفسادِ

Then it has no purity or freshness

And its fate is but to rot

وحلّ الطلق غسل الذنب فاعمل

به فهو الطريق إلى الرشادِ

The solution to cleanse sins is to act

For that is the path to righteousness

تصبّ عليه ماء جوف كيس

وتعركه برفق واتئادِ

Pour rainwater from a bag upon it

And scrub it gently with care

فتجمع صفوه في الماء منه

ويبقى ثفله شبه الرمادِ

Collect its essence in the water

Leaving but dregs like ashes

ويسحق بعده بالماء دهراً

فتخرج منه منفعة العبادِ

Grind it afterward in water for ages

Extracting benefit for mankind

فذاك الراسب المغسول يدعى

بأملاح وأجساد شدادِ

These settled sediments when washed

Are named salts and powders fine
