  1. صنوان ضدان أب واحد

    رباهما في الزمن الذاهبِ

    Two opposites, one father

    Raised them in the fleeting time

  2. بينهما بعد فمن طالع

    في أفق الشرق ومن غاربِ

    Between them was distance, so one’s fate

    Was the east’s horizon, the other’s the west

  3. قد ظفر الطالب بالهارب

    وتمّ منه بغية الطالبِ

    The seeker has found the fugitive

    And attained what the seeker desired

  4. فصاحب المشرق من جانب

    وصاحب المغرب من جانبِ

    So the lord of sunrise from one side

    And the lord of sunset from the other side

  5. صارا جميعا نحو وسط السما

    فالتقيا في الوسط الغالبِ

    Both together now towards midst of sky

    Met in the center, the dominant midpoint

  6. فاصطحبا فيه وزالت به

    عداوة المصحوب والصاحبِ

    So they accompanied there and with it vanished

    The enmity of the accompanied and accompanier

  7. ومن حراك النافر المرتقي

    ومن سكون الثابت الراسبِ

    And from the turmoil of the repelled climber

    And from the stillness of the fixed sinker

  8. طبيعة خامسة ولّدت

    فيها انبساط الغائص الذائبِ

    A fifth nature birthed

    In it the diffusion of the melting diver

  9. كالذهب الإبريز باقٍ على ال

    نار صبور ليس بالهاربِ

    Like gold embers lasting on the

    Fire, patient, not fleeing
