1. Moses’ appointed term is the time of our operation;

    so take heed, for true discernment is intuition.

  2. All that the books contain concerning seven—

    how long it has been debated and studied!

  3. So we conjoined the two waters for our week,

    doubled; what lies within them is diminished.

  4. Thus too, our stones are seven;

    there is no doubt in that, nor any confusion.

  5. And what is our white rose? It is that which

    gives rise to crops and the horse.

  6. And the white clay is that which

    by nature holds and confines.

  7. For us, the red letter is fire,

    a red fire containing heat and dryness.

  8. And the moist, precious gold is that which

    some people say is the sun.

  9. The kohl-dark body is our abbār—our lead—

    and it is the marked, ill-omened one.

  10. The fires are two; both were refined

    to perfection by the five stars.

  11. The mineral substances likewise are seven,

    apprehended by reason or by sense.

  12. Woe to you! This is the cipher of our secrets,

    at which jinn and humankind stand bewildered.
