فيمَ التجني والصّبا طِينُهُ
رطبٌ فما يعيَى به الطابعُ
Why bear grudges, when misfortune's clay
Is moist, and cannot hold the seal's stamp?
إنْ تُعْرضُوا عنِّي فمِنْ دونِكُمْ
في الأرض لي مضطَرَبٌ واسِعُ
If you turn from me, beyond you still
The troubled, spacious earth remains for me.
ما من خَصاصٍ قد مَررنا بهِ
إلا عليهِ محجرٌ راقعٌ
No barren plot we passed along the way
But on it squatted some insistent tramp.
هيهاتَ أن يخفقَ لي مطلبٌ
والشَّعَرُ الأسودُ لي شافعُ
Vain the wish that some desire takes wing!
My black-haired poems still will intercede.
