  1. ذريني على أخلاقِي الشُّوْسِ إنني

    عليمٌ بإمرارِ العزائمِ والنَّقْضِ

    Leave me to my character, bright as the sun

    I know well how to pass and repeal decrees

  2. أزيدُ إِذا أيسرتُ فضلَ تواضُعٍ

    ويُزهى إِذا أعسرتُ بعضي على بعضي

    I give more when at ease, out of gracious humility

    And withdraw when hardship makes me guard my honor

  3. فذلك عندَ اليُسْرِ أكسبُ للثَّنَا

    وهذاكَ عند العُسْرِ أصونُ للعِرْضِ

    For in ease I gain praise by generosity

    And in hardship protect my dignity

  4. أرى الغُصْنَ يَعرى وهو يسمو بنفسهِ

    ويوقَرُ حملاً حين يدنو من الأرضِ

    I see the branch stripped bare as it reaches to the sky

    And bowed down by fruit when nearing the ground
