بنزع الرطوبة من جسمها

تكلّس أجزاؤه وانهدم

By extracting moisture from its body

Its parts became calcified and collapsed

وصار به قشفا ميتا

عديم التماسك لا يلتئم

And it became a dead crust

Devoid of cohesion, unable to heal

فإن أنت رطبت أجزاءه

جعلت تلتحم

So if you moistened its parts

They would stick together

وباللطف والفرق تدبيره

ولين السخونة حتى يتم

And with gentleness and separation you can manage it

And soften the heat until it is complete

فلا تنهكِ الأرض واستبقِ من

رطوبتها ما يبل الرحم

So do not exhaust the earth and preserve

The moisture that fills the womb

ففي نزع بِلّتِها موتُها

ومنع تزاوجها والعقم

For in extracting its wetness is its death

And preventing its marriage and sterility

وبالماء تغسل أوساخها

ويكشط عنها البلا والسقمِ

And with water you wash its filth

And scrape the affliction and disease from it

ويجعل باطنها ظاهرا

ويبرز من سرها ما اكتتم

And make its interior apparent

And reveal from its mystery what was concealed

وبالدهن يذهب ظل النحاس

ويعمر من أرضنا ما استرم

And with oil the shade of copper disappears

And restore from our land what was ruined

ومنه تولد أصباغنا

فيغدو به ماؤنا وهو دم

And from it are born our pigments

So our water becomes, through it, blood

وبالأرض يبسط أدهاننا

فيثبت في النار لا ينهزم

And with the earth we spread our oils

So it remains in the fire, undefeated

وبالصبغ تشرق ألوانها

فتصبح نيرة في الظلم

And with dye its colors shine

So it becomes bright in the darkness

وتشميع أجسادنا الباليات

بالماء كان وبالدهن تم

And moistening our worn out bodies

Was with water and with oil was completed

وتنمو الزروع وتزكو الربوع

ويزهر من نبتها ما نجم

And crops grow and meadows prosper

And from its plants blossoms what was budded

فإن أنت أحسنت تدبير ما

ذكرناه حزت كنوز النعم
