How many nights have we spent awake, while the eyes of troubles sleep?
The watcher is gone, and we have privacy,
So kissing is permitted, and embracing is binding.
She lowered her veil over a shining smile -
Can a veil conceal such radiance?
I kissed her mouth behind her veil,
The saliva is wine, the veil is a cup.
I complained of what her eyes did to mine,
Eyes can be warriors and arrows.
I named my glance a garden of her beauty,
Beauty is a meadow, eyes are protectors.
I gathered the pomegranates of her breasts,
Whoever gathers them, finds health or illness.
Then we parted, and tears were falling stars,
Dawn is divorce, his face sour.
We spent the night, and our night's darkness in her absence
Is dawn, and for us the dawn is darkness.
