1. فديتُكَ قد حانَ وقتُ الصَّبوح

    ولاحَ الصَّبَاحُ ولم تَحْضُرِ

    I would sacrifice myself for you, dawn has arrived

    And the morning shone though you did not attend

  2. وجاء الطُّهَاة بما عندَهمْ

    وحَثَّ السُقاةُ على المُسْكرِ

    The cupbearers came with what they had

    And the water-carriers hastened to intoxication

  3. ومُدَّ القُباطِيُّ فوقَ الخِوا

    ن يلمعُ كالقمر المُزْهِرِ

    The Copt stretched the tents over the meadows

    Gleaming like the blossoming moon

  4. وحان الصلاةُ على ابنِ الشهيد

    فحيَّ على دفنِه تؤجَرِ

    It was time for prayer for the martyr's son

    So proclaim over his burial and you will be rewarded

  5. وفوق المِنَصَّةِ مجلوَّةٌ

    علينا عرائسُ من كسكرِ

    On the pulpit were beautiful maidens

    Dolls from the land of Egypt

  6. بناتُ المؤذن ذاك الذي

    يؤذّن والصبحُ لم يُسفِرِ

    The daughters of that muezzin

    Who calls to prayer before dawn has broken

  7. سُبينَ وعُرِّينَ من بعد ما

    ذُبحنَ فيا لكَ من منكرِ

    They were captured and stripped

    After being slaughtered, what an abhorrence!

  8. فلما سُلبنَ الثيابَ أُبتلينَ

    بسوداءَ موحشةِ المنظرِ

    Clad in repulsive black robes

    Fingers amputated, some up to the knuckles

  9. أصابعُها الحُجْنُ مسنونَةٌ

    نواشبُ منهنَّ في المنحرِ

    They visited hell equally

    Moaning amidst raging flames

  10. فزارتْ بهن سواءَ الجحيم

    ترنَّحُ باللّهبِ المُسْعَرِ

    One was crucified, her hand nailed

    To her cheek though she was unaware

  11. فمصلوبةٌ سُمِّرتْ كفُّها

    إِلى جِيدها وهي لم تَشْعُرِ

    Another disemboweled, her belly

    Containing beads of red gold

  12. ومنقوبةُ البطنِ في جوفِهَا

    كُراتٌ من الذهبِ الأحمرِ

    Brought before us driven like

    Rebellious crowds on judgment day

  13. وأُخرجنَ منها إلينا يُسَقْ

    نَ سوقَ العُصاةِ إِلى المحشرِ

    Like statues of camphor

    Drenched in musk and ambergris

  14. كأنَّ تماثيلَ كافورِه

    تَضمَّخُ بالمِسْكِ والعنبرِ

    Smooth as peeled almonds

    And as pure as unpeeled rice

  15. لُجَيْنٌ إِذا قَشَرَتْهُ الأكُفُّ

    وتبرٌ إِذا هي لم تُقْشَرِ

    Our cook presented a dish

    Topped with a lace made of sugar

  16. وقدَّمَ طبَّاخُنَا رُزَّةً

    عليها لِثامٌ من السُّكَّرِ

    The moon hid beneath the clouds

    Neither revealing itself nor concealed

  17. بها احتجبَ البدرُ تحت الغَمام

    فلم تَتَجلَّ ولم تُسْتَرِ

    You'd think the painter gave it

    Eyes that stare without eyelids

  18. تَرى للدِّهانِ على وَجْهِهَا

    عُيوناً تدورُ بلا مَحجِرِ

    And a flock of delicate beauties

    Made of almonds and candied sugar

  19. وسِرباً نواعِمَ مخلوقةً

    من اللَّوزِ والسكّرِ العسكري

    Two concubines in one waistband

    By God, what that waistband contains!

  20. قريبانِ في مِئْزَرٍ واحدٍ

    فلِله ما ضُمَّ في مِئْزَرِ

    The weight of their skirts fills their pelvises

    Without fat or padding

  21. ثِقالُ المآزرِ قُبُّ البطو

    نِ غيرُ سِمانٍ ولا ضُمَّرِ

    As if the desserts were tailored

    With undyed robes

  22. كأنَّ الفواقِعَ قد فُصِّلَتْ

    عليها جَلابيبُ لم تُزْرَرِ

    Their tender complexions betray

    The sweetness hidden within

  23. تَراها لِرقَّةِ أبشارِهَا

    تُخَبِّرُ عن حَشْوِها المُضْمَرِ

    They drank oil until sated

    And drowned in its green slick

  24. شَرِبْنَ من الدُّهْنِ حتى رَوِين

    وغُرّقْنَ في لُجِّه الأخضرِ

    As if houris were brought forth

    From paradise, swimming in al-Kawthar

  25. كأنَّ َكواعب قد أُبرِزَتْ

    من الخُلدِ تسبحُ في الكوْثرِ

    Pages of bliss within them

    Refined but unopened

  26. صحائفُ في طَيِّهِنَّ النَّعِيمُ

    لطائفُ صِيْنَتْ ولم تُنْشَرِ

    Their alluring sight indicates

    They are sweet to taste

  27. تَدُلُّ بمنظَرِها المُجْتَلَى

    على أنَّها حلوةُ المَخْبَرِ

    Melt when lifted by palms

    Before reaching the throat

  28. تذوبُ إِذا رفعتَهْا الأكف

    فُ قبلَ الوصولِ إِلى الحَنْجَرِ

    Hurry to us, I'd sacrifice my soul

    Do not hesitate or tire

  29. فبادِرْ إلينا فدتْكَ النفوس

    ولا تتوقفْ ولا تَفْتُرِ

    Join your elders in music, wine, and dicing

    And do not cease or desist

  30. وشاركْ صنائِعَك الأقدمِي

    نَ في العزفِ والخَمْرِ والمَيْسِرِ
