لاحَ الهلال والثُّرَيْ

يا فوقهُ في مجسدِ

The crescent moon appeared

Above it in the sky

وللهلالِ جُمّةٌ

من عَنْبر منضَّدِ

The crescent has a cluster

Of ambergris incensed

مثل وشاح لؤلؤ

مفصَّل مُبَدَّدِ

Like a pearl necklace

Threaded and scattered

على عروس لبِستْ

لثامَ خَزٍّ أسودِ

On a bride who wore

A black satin veil
