أنعم إذابة ما سكبت فإنه

للصبغ أقبل وهو فيه أغوص

Gracefully melt what you have poured, for it

Is receptive to dye and plunges deep within

زرنيخنا يطفو ذرواً ميتاً

ويغوص حين يذاب وهو مرصّصُ

Our verdigris surfaces as lifeless fragments

Yet melts and immerses when dissolved and refined

والسمّ والترياق في تركيبنا

متجاذبان فمهلك ومخلّصُ

In our composition, poison and remedy

Wrestle, destroying and preserving in turn

وإذا تشخّص غيره بغرائب

فيه فذاك بذاته يتشخّصُ

When others reveal their strange eccentricities

That in itself characterizes them uniquely

فعليك بالكتب القديمة إنها

منها نهذّب سرنا ونلخّصُ

So study the ancient books, for from them

We refine our inner selves and summarize

لا تقدمن على إزالة لفظة

فيهن عن معنى به يتخصّصُ

Do not presume to remove any wording

That gives unique meaning and specializes
