سقى اللهُ عيشاً مضى وانْقَضى

بلا رجعةٍ أرْتَضيها ونُقْله

God watered a living that passed and vanished

With no return I enjoyed it and moved it

كوجهِ الحبيبِ وقلبِ الأديب

وشعرِ الوليد وخطِّ ابن مقله

Like the face of a loved one and the heart of a literary man

And the poetry of al-Walid and the script of Ibn Muqlah
