1. وسائلٍ عن دمعيَ السائلِ

    وحالِ لوني الكاسِفِ الحائلِ

    I complained of the tears flowing down my cheeks

    And of my gloomy, woeful state

  2. قلتُ لهُ والأرضُ في ناظري

    أضيقُ منها كُفَّةُ الحابلِ

    I said to him, while the earth in my eyes

    Was narrower than the palm of a rope maker

  3. بُليتُ واللهِ بمملوكةٍ

    في مقلتيها مَلَكا بابلِ

    I swear by God, I suffer because of a slave girl

    In whose eyes there is an angel from Babylon

  4. أو سيفُ مأمونِ بن مأمون ال

    قرمِ الهمامِ الملكِ العادلِ

    Or it is the sword of Al-Ma'mun bin Al-Ma'mun

    The brave, just king

  5. فإنْ لحاني عاذلٌ في الهوى

    يوماً فما العاذلُ بالعادلِ

    So if a blamer blames me one day for loving

    Then the blamer is not just
