1. يا من تشابهت المحاسنُ والعُلى

    فيهِ وأصبحتِ القلوبُ برسمِهِ

    O you in whom beauties and lofty virtues resemble one another,

    and to whom hearts have become devoted;

  2. فالخُلقُ من كخَلْقِهِ والخَلْقُ مِنْ

    هُ كلفظِهِ والشِّعْرُ منه كاسمِهِ

    his character is like his form, and what comes from

    him is like his diction; his poetry is like his name.

  3. وغذاءُ جسمي من سماحِ يمينِهِ

    وغذاءُ روحي من بدائعِ نظمِهِ

    My body’s nourishment comes from the largesse of his right hand,

    and my soul’s nourishment from the marvels of his verse.

  4. لا زِلْتَ بينَ سعادةٍ وزيادةٍ

    وسلِمْتَ من سيفِ الزمانِ وسهمِهِ

    May you remain amid happiness and continual increase,

    and may you be safe from Time’s sword and arrow.
