يا قِبْلَةَ العشَّاقِ يا مَنْ بهِ
سِتْرُ الهوى بينَ الوَرَى مُنْتَهكْ
O lodestar of lovers, O you through whom
Love’s veil among all people is torn away—
جَرَّدْتَ من عَيْنَيْكَ سَيْفاً فَلِمْ
أغْمَدْتَهُ في قلبِ عبدِ الملِكْ
You drew from your eyes a sword; why, then,
Did you sheath it in the heart of ʿAbd al-Malik?
