1. دعوتُ بماءٍ في إناءٍ فجاءَني ال

    حبيبُ بهِ خَمْراً فأوْسَعْتُهُ زَجْرا

    I called for water in a vessel, and my beloved came to me

    With wine in it. I chided him out of zeal,

  2. فقالَ هو الماءُ القراحُ وإنَّما

    تجلَّى لهُ وجهي فأوهمَكَ الخَمْرا

    But he said, “It is but water, limpid and pure:

    My face was mirrored in it, and to you seemed wine.”
