الأرضُ طاؤوسيَّةٌ
والجوُّ جُؤْجُؤُ فاخِتِ
The earth is ornate
And the air is bubbly and joyful
متبسِّمٌ عن نَشْر حُ
بٍّ عندَ صَبٍّ ثابِتِ
Smiling at the spread of steadfast love
And the rose is a blooming pearl
والوردُ دُرٌّ نابتٌ
أحسِنْ بدُرٍّ نابِتِ
More beautiful than any blooming pearl
But in my eyes there is agony
لكنَّ في عيني قذًى
من نورِ شيبٍ سابتِ
From the light of settled old age
When I cried blood tears
لما بكيتُ دَمَ الفؤا
دِ على الحبيبِ الفائتِ
For the lover now gone
Old age laughed in my face
ضَحِكَ المشيبُ بعارضي
ضحكَ الغَوِيِّ الشامتِ
The laugh of the gloating deceiver
