1. أَمِطْ عنك نعتَ الحمى والطّلَلْ

    وجُلْ في سبيل الصِّبا والغَزَلُ

    Cast off the cloak of anxiety and ruin

    And set out in pursuit of youth and flirtation

  2. وخَلْعِ العذار وشرب العُقار

    وسكْر الخُمَار بعقب الثّمَلُ

    The shedding of inhibitions and drinking wine

    Intoxicated by wine after tipsiness

  3. ولهو الكَواعب غرَّ التّرائِب

    سود الذّوائِب ذات الكحلُ

    The play of coquettes when barriers are lowered

    Dark eyed beauties with kohl'd eyes

  4. وحسن النُهود ونور الجيُود

    وورد الخدود ولحظ المُقَلُ

    The beauty of breasts and brightness of generosity

    Rose cheeks, amorous glances and winking eyes

  5. وكل خلوب صَيود القُلوب

    بحسن عَروبٍ وغنج ودَلَّ

    And every enchanting tenderhearted beauty

    With the grace of maidens, coyness and charm

  6. لضيق الغلائل فعْم الخلاخِلِ

    طاوي الأياطل عالي الكفلْ

    For narrow waists, caress slender hips

    Slender bodies, tall statures

  7. ثقيل الروّادف داجي السّوالف

    عذب المراشف شنب الرتل

    Heavy thighs, waist long tresses

    Sweet to taste, fine hair

  8. تريك قضيباً رخيماً رَطيياً

    يقلُّ كثيباً إِذا ما استقلْ

    It shows you a pliant, smooth rod

    That shrinks when erect

  9. وجيد الغزال بدا في الرّمال

    كبدر الكَمال أوانَ استهلْ

    The graceful gazelle appeared in the sands

    Like the full moon when it first rose

  10. بدعج مراض وصفو بَياض

    فلا بالمفاض ولا بالأزلْ

    With bright radiance and pure whiteness

    Caring naught for being uncovered or eternal

  11. بدا في الخمار كما جلّنار

    كشمس النّهار أوان الطفَلْ

    It appeared in the wine as if an igniting coal

    Like the midday sun when in its infancy

  12. يريك على الخدّ مثل جَنى الوَرْد

    ينفح بالنّد صبغ الخَجَلْ

    It shows you on the cheek something like rose petals

    Diffusing fragrance with soft down like redness

  13. وطيب النّدام وسقي الغلام

    بكأس المدام وشفي العِلَلْ

    And the sweetness of wine and serving of wine

    In a cup with wine that heals sickness

  14. بصافي العَتيق كلَوْن العقيق

    وزَهر الشّقيق عَلاه البَلَلْ

    With pure aged wine the color of carnelian

    And meadow saffron whose flowers the dew has moistened

  15. ودور القداح لوقت الصّباح

    وجرى الريّاح صباً أو شمّلْ

    And cups passed at dawn

    As the winds blow gently or wildly

  16. إذا ما السّماء جلاها الضياءُ

    ورق الهَواء نسيماً وطَلْ

    When the sky is lit up by light

    And the air is stirred by a soft breeze

  17. وآب الحبيبُ وغابَ الرّقيبُ

    وتابَ المريبُ وزال الوَجلْ

    The lover comes and the watchdog goes

    The doubter repents and tension disappears

  18. وروضٌ يفوح وزهرٌ يلوحُ

    وعودٌ يتوح خِلالَ الكلَلْ

    A meadow smells sweet, a flower smiles

    And a slim branch sways amidst anorexia

  19. بخيْر تدلّى وبؤسٍ تولّى

    وسَعد تعلّى ونحْسٍ أَفَلْ

    With the best that hangs and misery that departs

    Good fortune has ascended and ill fate descended

  20. ولهو وقصفٍ وزمرٍ وعَزْفٍ

    ولثْمٍ ورَشفٍ ونهل وعلْ

    Diversion, singing, musical notes

    Kissing, sipping, drinking in gulps

  21. وتهْتان ودْقٍ ولمعان برقٍ

    وندمان صدقٍ كأسد الغيلْ

    Flirting, pounding, flashing light

    Regretful promises like lions in the thickets
